Is anyone aware if there will be Combines in NYC the day before Unifieds start, and if so, which schools? I’ve seen it listed for the past 2 years, but nothing for the 2019 auditions.
I think the folks at Shenandoah U organize this - and they don’t have any details on their auditions up yet. The school’s application doesn’t go live for 2019 until August 25th. I think outside of the audition programs, their rolling admissions is still going on for 2018.
Combines will be Friday January 18th. We are still working out details of what schools will be there.

What are combines?
@carriemc95 An audition where they have several colleges attending at once. In the past Shenandoah and maybe 4-5 other schools do a combined audition at a separate location during Unifieds.
@stagedoormama is there a website that will list the colleges that will be attending once they are known?
]School just started, we will probably have more info in 3-4 weeks. We distribute the info on Social Media and it makes the rounds quickly.

@MTVTmom As stated above^ it will go out on social media at some point.
One piece that f advice … Anyone going should be sure to get there super early!!! Last year we got there at 8:30am, doors opened at 9:00, and my DD could not get an audition spot. It fills up quickly!
so are the spots given out first-come-first-serve… like, the earlier you arrive the better of a shot you have or is it just a free-for-all once the doors open? Seems strange!
@El-Cee Not really strange. From what I have read and heard I think they are prescreens and you do not apply first, but you would still have to audition later for full faculty but @VoiceTeacher can tell you.
I’ll answer all of these when we everything is finalized. I’ll keep these comments in mind too. We put this together in an effort to help students out. We wanted an option for them to be seen my multiple schools at a single audition to try to enhance their experience at Unifieds. It has become more popular than we anticipated, so we are learning as we go along. Shenandoah has made offers out of the open call, not sure about the other schools. More soon. ~VT
Last year, there were 2 lines once we were inside the doors but one line moved much faster checking people in than the other line. Unfortunately, we ended up on the slower line. So people who entered after we did, who got on the faster line, got audition spots but we did not. If there are 2 lines this year, I’d recommend you and your child wait on different ones to ensure you get to the front as quickly as possible.
I am following!
@MTMOM17 Thank you for mentioning that. I will make a suggestion to my colleagues to see if we can prevent that from happening again.

Thank you @VoiceTeacher!
Do you need to apply to schools for academic admission to audition at Combine? Or will the school tell you to apply if they like you?
Combines this year will be held at Chelsea Studios on January 18, 2019. Participating schools are Texas State, Shenandoah Conservatory, Texas Tech, Wagner, Missouri State, North Dakota and Arizona State. Registration begins at 9 am - first come, first served. Schedule is: 9-11 am - visit with college reps, 11 am - 5 pm - open call auditions, 6 pm - dance call. There is an accompanist provided. Instructions: Prepare EITHER one 16 bar selection of musical theatre repertoire AND a one minute monologue OR two contrasting 16 bar cuts of musical theatre repertoire. This info comes from Kaitlin Hopkins at Texas State. She also said you must be available on either January 19th or 20th for a callback. This last bit applies to Texas State. Not sure about the other programs.
For questions contact Holly Johnson at Shenandoah. hjohnson2@su.edu
Are combines attended in lieu of prescreens?
^^^ No idea. I suggest you contact each school to check.
