I've always loved the Larchmont.

Thank you, sopranomom92! Very timely for us as we are taking a fall East Coast School trip. Tried to get in at the Larchmont but their bigger beds were taken – two of us are traveling. We are booked at a very expensive alternative for now (as opposed to a horribly expensive alternative).
I will use the article to see if we can find something less pricey!

lastbird,
Depending on what school your child is visiting they might have deals at certain hotels in the area. I know NYU and MSM both have some hotel deals. Also if you are not already I would subscribe to Living Social and other coupon lists. A few years ago we got the most amazing deal from Living Social for a luxury hotel in Mid-town Manhattan. That hotel is totally out of our price range normally (600 a night or more), but we stayed there for about 150 (not including tax). Oh if you are on a tight budget keep in mind that the NYC tax rate is quite high and that will add to your cost. Also take into account tip and parking (which can add up). The nice thing about auditions is that they happen “off season” so there are deals available.

Stayed at the Comfort Inn Central Park West for Son’s Juilliard audition. Great location. $148 after taxes and fees and AAA discount. Not fancy, but price and location hard to beat. Easy walk to Juilliard.
