NYC Tristate Parents / Students / Grads

My D is a HS Junior and is considering ED @ Wake.
We have visited and she thinks Wake will be her first choice.
Her only hesitation is the distance from home.

For those NYC Tristate Parents / Students / Grads , how often did you come home over the school year and did you fly or drive?

Mapquest can answer your questions about distance, drive times. I'd think that in the absence of several days and/or a plane ticket, a NYC student ain't gonna see the Empire State Bldg until Turkeytime, Xmas, spring break ... whoops, I forgot ... by then she'll be headin' to the FL beach to shag with her newfound Deaconettes and beaus.

WP: have all your 1770 posts been this meaningless?
It's 2008 and most of us can figure out distances , directions and airfare by now.
If speculating spring break plans entertain you , get a GGW dvd.

If you don't have any direct knowledge to my question ,Please refrain from this thread.

Our D just finished her 2nd year at WFU. We're a little out of the tristate area, further up in CT. It's a 12 hour drive to Winston-Salem, and she doesn't have a car at school -- so she flies. The nearest airport is Bradley, which means no direct flights to/from Greensboro. For a short time this year we got excited about Skybus, which had really inexpensive, direct flights -- but obviously that didn't last long. D is home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, & spring break (or she meets us at a "vacation destination). We go to Family Weekend in the fall. Fall break is really just a 3-day weekend, so she hasn't come home for that.

Having answered your question, Brave, I'm also going to say that, IMO, you're pretty harsh on WP. It looks like you're pretty new here on CC? Although I'm not a pro like many others, I have found that, for the most part, fellow CC'ers are civil to each other. WP really gave you the same answer I did -- but with a sense of humor. So chill out a little, OK?

S just finished soph. year also. We live in NJ. I have been able to get very reasonable flights from Greensboro to Philly, IF I book the flight way in advance. S comes home for Thanks, Christmas & Spring Break. Spends fall break and Easter traveling with friends down South...so WP is right..:) Have been able to get flights for @ $200...can't even begin to pick them up in a car at that price!

Brave ... no. Only those that respond to the dumbest of questions.

Takes a ridiculous question to get a ridiculous answer ... :p Here's trusting your next 6 inquiries will be equally as thoughtful and entertaining.

Was just browsing the Wake thread and came upon this one. I think the main disconnect between OP and Whistle Pig is the use of the word "shag". The shag is a North Carolina dance--NOT an Austin Powers reference to having sex.

Yo Chintz ... I think you might've meant the shag is a dance done by North Carolinians... (ESPECIALLY when they take that spring road trip to FL! Definitely not restricted to Wrightsville (altho WFU students have been known to convince ex-patriate Bostonians ..."Now, NEVER EVER do this anywhere north of Ocracoke! Ok?" "ah, ok, I won't!" ) ) ;)

"Hey baby, your modifier's dangling on my shag carpet. And you must love it!"
Your pal,
AP :p
WFU '74

WP--I try to defend your honor and you jump ugly on my grammar! ;) I'm a Yankee, so my knowledge of shagging is limited. Can one really shag outside of North Carolina? Must one wear seersucker while shagging? Is shagging permitted inland, or is it a coastal activity?

The OP believes shagging is a very bad thing.....

I know. I'm just pulling your chain, Baby! We Yanks can take it!

To clarify, shagging fly balls can be nasty evidence that one might be sittin' on the bench's end come game time, right?

The REAL question about WF is how long do we think the football bubble can last? Hope springs eternal ... Go Deacs!

Love you, baby. You can play on my rug anytime! ;)

Oh yes -- "Shag on the Mag" -- big part of WFU's annual Springfest!

There are lots of folks from the NJ/NY/CT area. I'm from NJ myself and driving is doable, but I never had a car--until now--so I usually flew from Greensboro to Newark. Wake certainly doesn't have a really southern culture, because of all the yankees.
