NYIT only gave me 12k dollars what do I do?

Long story short I was accepted into NYIT my dream school and now I got 12k dollars and I am confused on what my next steps are to get more money. What do I do? Taking loans out is not an option here.

Then you need to find a more affordable college.

The cost to attend this school looks to be about $49,000 a year.

You got $12,000 in what? Scholarships? grants? Loans? What?

You can take out a $5500 Direct Loan, assuming you are a U.S. citizen or green card holder. Or is THAT Loan out of the question also.

Are you saying your parents can’t help you with college costs at all?

This school is likely NOT affordable.

What do you do? Well, you don’t go to that school because you don’t have the funding.

Most kids do not get to go to pricey dream schools. Most kids can’t afford them.

So basically I have an 80 average however i had a rough junior year so my gpa dipped from a 90 freshman year to that 80. I am currently improving right now and my CUNYs for me are Lehman College and Brooklyn College. My SAT is 1000 so my question is based on this info what are my chances to get into those 2 colleges and if anything are there any suggestions for colleges in NY. My interests are graphic design and Business.

Your stats weren’t high enough for the school to give you much/any merit, so it sounds like you’re an admit/deny.

Where can you afford to go to school?

What is your EFC?

What kind of aid did you get from NYIT? Grant? Loan? What?

It was a scholarship and my efc is 0 so what can I do? Possibly go to a cuny and transfer out?

@sybbie719

What are the options instate for this student with these stats.

NYIT is not affordable. It is a school that does not meet 100% demonstrated need.

Are you Opportunity program (EOP/HEOP/SEEK /College Discovery) Eligible.

Do you know your EFC? How much is your family able to pay for you

Hi OP–

Guttman is a unique CC in a very pretty building. At Guttman you are part of a small community of scholars. It’s very supportive and the building where it’s located is gorgeous. It’s also centrally located by NYPL midtown, by Bryant Park. Check that you apply correctly, though. Because it’s a unique type of program, they have a special application process. This is a great way to start IMHO and they do have a business focused program. http://guttman.cuny.edu/

LaGuardia Community College has a great industrial design program. How about seeing if it appeals to you. https://www.laguardia.edu/industrial-design/

BMCC has a business management program.

@Dustyfeathers makes a good point about the CUNY CCs. If you are not eligible for college discovery, you should sign up for ASAP. If accepted in asap as long as you get $5 in tap or pell, you will get free tuition, s book stipend and metro cards. You can complete your associates/gen Ed requirements for free. Otherwise go to CC, accumulate 30 credits and a B average then transfer to s 4 year CUNY
