NYS TAP grant question

Hi guys, I'm filling out the TAP application. I'm not sure about question #37, which asks about the taxable income, it's my first time filing tax and so I don't have any reference from the past years. I know my total amount earned, but for question 37, I don't know what will be the taxable income. Can anyone help me with this? What should I do to calculate for this? Thank you!!

You should do FAFSA before you do TAP. The two link up and it would make it a lot easier to do. You can link up to 3 days after filing FAFSA, I believe.

Have you or you parents complete the NYS tax returns? You could find your or your parents’ Taxable Income on IT-201 Question 37.

Thank you for both of your answers.

Yes. I did the FAFSA first, but since I put IDK what kind of tax I’m gonna file so FAFSA didn’t ask me about the detail.

For the TAP, I think they asked both my parents and me whether we will file or not. My parents have had the tax return, so I can look up to their tax return from last year even though they haven’t filed it this year.

When they asked about mine, and what will be my taxable income, I have no idea what to put.

What did you make last year? Did you get any W-2s, or other forms? Did you file taxes last year?

Yah! I got my w2 form last week, I made around $1000, it’s from work study. Fed and State didn’t take tax from me.

oh, so is it safe for me to put 0?

Yes taxable income should be 0

Thank you, all of you!!
