Units completed: 60
Units in progress: 12
Pre-reqs completed: None required

Subjective:

ECs listed on app: Nothing worth mentioning.
Essays (subject and responses): I am an international student and I have had a very interesting life so I talked about some of my experiences and what I hope I can achieve while at NYU.
Letters of Recommendation: An amazingly beautiful and very personal recommendation from a highly regarded Professor.

Tisch Portfolio: Two videos that I directed, edited and filmed. (One was a documentary the other a video chronicling the first year of my Godson’s life) As well as a personal submission which was a children’s book that I wrote and illustrated.

Other:

Other schools applied to: Just NYU.
Comments: I am so happy, I have always known that I would be a director one day so this acceptance just reiterates that I am on the right path!

P.S Good luck to everyone still waiting and congrats to those accepted! See you all around campus! :D

Rejected - CAS - International Relations

Stats:
College transferring from: Hofstra University
Entering as: Sophomore
GPA: 3.8 as of first semester.
HS GPA: 3.4 (unweighted, 4.3 weighted i think…)
Units completed: 15 + some APs
Units in progress: 16
SATs: 2350
Subjective:
ECs listed on app: president of amnesty international (3 years), class president (2 years), co-founder of a humanitarian aid club which raised several thousand $ for Darfur, national achievement finalist (like national merit, but for African-American students), i also took a gap year after graduation… i volunteered in south africa, nepal, and thailand and worked/lived alone in new zealand and australia. in college i joined a comedy club was a member of the SGA.
Job/Work Experience: i was a lifeguard and worked in a fitting room in a department store.
Essays: writing has always been one of my strengths. i personally think i wrote fantastic essays, and the people who read them agreed. for the general common app “why transfer” essay i made sure to mention that my current school does not have the major i want.
Letters of Recommendation: one from my poli sci professor i’ve had for both semesters here, one from an economics professor. both of them really liked me, i got As in both classes. my poli sci prof was actually happy to hear i was transferring because she thought i’d do better in a more stimulating environment.
Other:
Other schools applied to: Wellesley (waitlisted), Barnard (pending), Northwestern (pending)
Comments: I was in complete shock when I got the email. I thought for sure I’d be accepted. I’m disappointed, but I hope to get into Barnard or Northwestern. If not, I’ll be going to community college in the fall and transferring to a UC because I’m from California.
A note to future transfers: It’s a rough process, prepare yourself for it. Don’t assume you’ll be accepted even if you’re confident that you’re a great candidate for a school. If you really want to leave your current school, apply to safeties. REAL safeties. Not “oh, I’ll most likely get in here” schools.

Sigh…

Accepted - SCPS - Hotel and Tourism Management

Stats:
College transferring from: Marymount Manhattan College
Entering as: Sophomore
GPA: 4.0 as of first semester.
SAT: 1740
Units completed: 16, plus 6 AP credits
Units in progress: 15
Pre-reqs completed: History

Subjective:
ECs listed on app: musical theater shoes, vice president of community service club, counselor at special needs organization, tenor section leader in chorale, class cabinet, spirt night leader and coordinator. Some academic awards.
Job/Work Experience: I worked for 4 years in High School as a Manager of a Party Center.
Essays (subject and responses): For the Common App, I wrote a very honest and creative approach to why I wanted to transfer from my current institution, gave a daily routine of what my day looked like and proved why i needed change academically. I also wrote an additional essay for why I wanted to go to NYU and there program specifically.
Letters of Recommendation: My History and Writing professors sent in a recommendation. I got to know them very well so I could assume they were pretty good.

Other:
Other schools applied to: Pace University and Fordham University (both accepted)
Comments: I’m shocked I was accepted. Due to the fact that my sat scores were terrible and I didnt come from a top school, i mostly accepted a rejection. When i got the email i fell off my bed. I think applying to a smaller, less competitive school within nyu like SCPS probably heightened my chances. However, all schools within NYU are difficult to get into. SOOOOOO happy! I think the passion i showed in my essays and my GPA is what really brought me to acceptance!

Mspivey, and funkyfesh:

What maths did you guys take at your current college? I’m unsure about which I should take to prep for applying to Tisch. Thanks again!

BTW, if you have any links to a website that shows what curriculum that a prospective student should be taking in order to prep for Tisch, let me know! :)

@jmatu25 I took one semester of Math for the Contemporary World which was just a mixture of different math classes all in one! That is literally all the math that I have taken in college but I got an A+ so I figure it balanced out! Haha! And I think it depends what you want to major in but with me I am a film/tv major so I took several classes pertaining to film and a few core classes. I don’t know if that was helpful but I hope it was! :)

That absolutely helped! I was scared that it’s mandatory to take some absurd math course, like calculus to get in, but I guess for Tisch students, it’s not like that. Thanks again, and congrats on getting in–maybe I’ll see you around the following year!!!

[] Essays (subject and responses): Personal essay was about my Jewish identity, the importance in understanding cultural differences (anti-ethnocentrism), and the opportunities NYU offers for MEIS.
