IBathlete,
yes, indeed. But I’ve been thinking of it and came up with a thought that some students are applying to both NYUAD and NYU. Some of them are being admitted to NYU, but they are still counted in these 10000 applying to NYUAD… So, maybe the chances are a little better than just 150 out of 10000… Umm, I hope you understand my point.
oh, and just a random question. I just don’t know who else to ask: my Secondary School Report was ready just today, and if my principal (she was the one working on it) sends it with a regular mail, it’ll be late for ED (it’d take at least 2 weeks to get to NYC). And the express mail would cost around $70, which is very expensive. So she put it in a sealed envelope with her signature on it approving that it’s been confidential from me, and I’m going to send it together with my High School transcript with express mail this weekend. Do you think that’d be fine?

i know a total of ~950 applied directly to NYUAD in both RD and ED and the rest came from those who applied to NYUNY and also ticked the “yes I want to be considered for NyUAD” box. and I know that out of the 150 students who accepted admission, 127 came from those who applied directly to NYUAD and 23 came from NYUNY applicants.

Elithefair, why not do it online? But I’m sure your proposed solution would also be fine.

Oh really? the counselor at nyu i talked to said that 10k applied to nyuad, and 37k applied to nyu ny. But yea, i guess that includes the people who simply checked the box. Though i still am almost 100% certain that i’m not going to get in anyways :(.

Eli: Sometimes, they require you to submit your transcript by mail. Though since you’re out of the country, they might be able to make an exception. Just be sure to email them and explain your situation. They are very understanding people. They might even allow you to submit it online. Though definately DO NOT simply send it and have it arrive late with no prior explanation. That will almost guarantee that your applcation will not be looked at.

hey im joining this thread. im applying to NYUAD this year. but for regular decision. id love to get some current students prospectives on how its going

KiwiKid, IBathlete,

I’d love my principal to do it online, but it’d be too complicated for her. It’s kind of embarrassing, but most teachers here are not very good at online stuff, as Russian colleges do not do anything online. Not to mention, there are no “recommendation letters” or anything like this in Russian colleges at all, so the papers with questions about me were the weirdest thing ever for them
Thanks for your opinion! I’ll explain this in the box for comments at the end in CommonApp.

maaan, I’ve just found out that you had to do this online teacher thing first so my teacher recommendations were sent all hand written… I just downloaded blank forms and gave them… Ugh I didn’t know you had to authorize your teachers when they prefer send the forms by mail…

To everyone, hello! I’m applying to NYUAD as well as an ED-II applicant (I dunno if I’m the only one in the thread applying as an ED-II applicant here), I’m a Pakistani but I’ve lived and studied in Abu Dhabi itself (it’s been 8 years since I’ve been here), I’ve given A-Levels and got 1 A* and 2 A’s… I’m giving 2 extra AS-Levels, and SAT I & II repeats… I’ve got a score of 104 in my TOEFL as well… I also am not sure that if I’m the only applicant do so but I’ve applied to NYUAD’s last admission cycle (for Class of 2014) before and even attended a Candidate Weekend, sadly I didn’t make the final cut… I thought re-applying wouldn’t be a bad idea. I’m also applying to MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, UPenn and Cornell as well.

Its also a coincidence that I happen to live right close to Sama Tower (which is the NYUAD Dorms, its a tall building actually) and the NYUAD campus itself is pretty close to my home. I do have some ECs as well, I hope they’re good enough.
And also, just a general note, compared to the contrary view of Middle East in American people, the UAE in general is not like that… there’s no “totally strict” vibe type of thingy here, you can be who you are… of course that doesn’t mean you go on promoting vanity/nudity or anything. I’m a Muslim as well, but I’ve to say, there’s no “binge-drinking” or related scene here, you can of course drink alcohol at some restaurants, public drinking is generally not seen here. About women, its not that they’re totally bound by men or anything, they also have equal rights here of course, voyeurism is not expected here.

I hope I’m called up again for a Candidate Weekend and I hope this time, I do make the final cut. My weekend (if any) would be in early February which is still a long way to go, argh! >< :P

Hello everyone! This is Silkesha from India. I am planning to apply for ED-2!
I would like to know who all(among those present here)are applying…would like to catch up with you all…either here or on FB…
Thank you,
Silkesha

Hello, it feels so good to meet up with people having similar interests!
Also, congratulations to KiwiKid on making it to one of the CWs!
elithefair, are you planning for ED-1 or 2?

Thanks! :)

silkysilky23,
Hey! I’m planning on ED I

@Elithefair — Hi, nice meeting you… I agree with Silkesha that its really nice meeting people with similar interest, anyways where are you from?

@Kiwikid & IBathlete ---- Its nice to meet you guys as well, I’m applying as well if you have read my recent threads… I heard Kiwikid that you were invited for a CW, I wish you luck, trust me you’re gonna enjoy your time here… and yh IBathlete, are you applying Early Decision as well?

murtaza: Yes, i applied ED1 a few weeks ago. My counselor also sent her nomination a few weeks back. Unfortunately as i learn more and more about the school, i find out that i’m competing with 2400’s and 4.0’s, which i am not. Though if what NYUAD says is true, and they do look at your application holistically, then i may stand a chance. NYUAD is def my dream school, so i really hope things work out. Good luck to all of the posters above me! im glad i was able to revive this thread from last year!

@IBathlete – Certainly we all can help reviving this thread ED-1, that’s nice… now you just have to wait and see whether you’re Inshallah (Arabic for “god-willing”) able to secure an invite for a CW… and actually last year I only had a SAT score of 1700 and 3 A’s in AS-Levels, I just applied with all my might, through essays, demonstrating interest in info sessions that took place here, maybe that’s what got me an invite last year… there’s an info session just 2 days away from now and hopefully I’m willing to attend that one… and just an advice, despite high or low holistic standards, what matters is you and your app personally… Good luck once again to all of us NYUAD '15 hopefuls! :D

murtaza: shukran jazeelan. I speak arabic and am muslim :). Wow, you got invited to the CW last year? how was it? What did you guys do? oh and btw, your sat score is out of 2400 like the one here in the USA right? and what are AS-levels?

@IBathlete – it’s odd referring to you as “athlete” all the time (given its association with sports ) so if you tell your name it would be better anyways yes my SAT score is out of 2400 (its the College Board SAT that we all give and my school itself is a test center for it), AS-Levels/A-Levels are British exams which can be considered an equivalent of testing criterion in UK universities especially (you can swap A-Levels for AP or IB) and CW last year was epic, it was enjoyment along with serious business, I won’t spill more surprises cause doing so wouldn’t make it sound too exciting or too good to be true (surprises are always epic -- ) but for a general note, we explored Abu Dhabi’s sightings and the NYUAD campus a bit and had sample lectures and conversations with faculty and all as well… I don’t know myself whether if any, there are gonna be some tweaking in the CWs this year, although advancing and new additions to the CW, I’ll say a yes-yes to it.
Well and again, *afwan/I --

Haha my name is Yousif. My username is ibathlete because I’m in the ib program, and am a swimmer, wrestler, football player, and tennis player. Oh ok, got it. More than anything I would like to attend the CW. It sounds like such an amazing experience! I know some applicants have already received their invitations, so I’m kinda worried. And afwan is correct :).

I’ve always wondered how they choose from the CW - given that all the candidates are extremely qualified anyway, would they get rid of someone who seemed the least enthusiastic or something?

@IBathlete – haha I got it, well I do play some sports considering Manchester United is my favorite team jk I play football (soccer) occasionally, I can wrestle though but I haven’t done it professionally or anything and again don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll end up there in NYUAD eventually.
@Kiwikid – good question dude, man basically you must know that you can either directly apply to NYUAD or apply ot NYUNY and ask to be considered for NYUAD as well… considering NYUNY’s criteria, a lot of applicants don’t meet the required criteria itself, they’ve just asked bluntly to be considered for NYUAD… so those applicants already are cut down, also those whose application remains incomplete or without any proper documents though also gets cut down… then they start evaluating some strongly potential apps and take stuff into consideration with eliminating those who either don’t match expectations or seem less enthusiastic as you said and all the “shortlisted” apps are then invited for the CW where then, they assess each individual closely with the tasks and participation of the candidate there in Abu Dhabi and how the candidate demonstrates interest throughout the whole weekend… and then finally give the decision on decisions day! Simple enough? :P

So not to sound rude, but would you say that you didn’t make the final cut from not seeming enthusiastic enough? That sounds a bit too subjective in my opinion (and a bit unfair!)
