NYU admission rate gotton lower?

I know that NYU accepts around the same number of people as before, but on the NYU website, there is a news article about how there was an 11% increase in the number of applicants this year. About 47,000 people applied for less than 6,000 seats, if I remember correctly. Doesn't this mean that the admission rate will be significantly lower?

The number of students any school accepts will be significantly higher than the actual number of seats available. Might the admissions rate go down? perhaps, but not a given, because the schools might choose to admit the same percentage of students, since they are not sure that their “yield” will remain what they need. Yield is the percentage of admitted students accepting enrollment. NYU does not know if the increase in applications is coming from more students with it as a first choice, or just a sign of students applying to a greater number of schools.

^^ I wouldn’t entirely agree with that. NYU introduced ED II this year. Meaning that they opened up a whole new slot for students to apply to NYU as first choice. Meaning they will be accepting more students under ED and less under RD than before. So I would except admission rate (at least for RD) to drop. I would also expect the overall admission rate to drop slightly because of that.
