--What school has easier classes where one could obtain a 4.0 while working hard?

-- I'd be interested in taking theater classes, chemistry, math, and english too

---Does Barnard have a "core curriculum" like Columbia?

__ I'm VERY interested in studying abroad (maybe freshman year too), so which school is better for that? And do they allow incoming freshmen to study abroad?

D got accepted to both and deciding between the 2 was a tough call. She decided to study vocal performance (MT) at NYU instead of being an English/theatre/ or music major at Barnard.

In the end, she got a talent merit scholarship from NYU and Barnard really could not commit to voice lessons or let her even meet with any voice instructors. Plus she heard very mixed things about the quality of their (mostly student run) musical theatre productions.

D felt that by going to Barnard she would be giving up her singing and wasn’t ready to do that. Plus in NYU she is able to do a unique minor called the Business of entertainment, media and technology as well as English. So she feels she is pursuing her talent, learning about the business world and still pursing academic interests.

Although she is loving NYU, she feels that she would have loved Barnard, too. It just would have been a different path.

NYU has one of the largest study abroad programs (it might be THE largest) that is run by a university. They also allow freshmen to do study abroad. Do a search on “nyu study abroad” and you’ll find their web site. All the courses are NYU courses, so you get credit for everything you take. Your financial aid also continues and is applicable to NYU’s program. They make it VERY easy to do.

But I’m not sure about taking theatre classes if you’re not in NYU Tisch Drama. You’d have to check into that. There may be some outside of Tisch, but the Tisch drama program is pretty structured; students in the other schools generally can’t take a Tisch theatre class.

D is a Vocal Perfromance music major in Steinhardt, with a concentration in Musical Theatre.

As for taking classes at Tisch, there is an open arts program that is available to all students. And there are also various minors that are theatre/ entertainment industry related (like Producing and the one my D is taking–the Business of Entertainment, Media and Technology.) Check out the Tisch website. As for study abroad, not sure what is open to CAS students, but I think there are some theatre programs in the UK that are run through NYU. Not sure whether they are open to freshmen though.
