NYU chances?

Asian Male
semi-competive school

Freshman gpa:3.33 UW and 3.33W
-no ecs
- i was an unmotivated student this year in high school

Sophomore gpa: 3.35 UW and 3.45 W
-no ecs
- i was equally as unmotivated this year aswell

Junior gpa : 4.0 UW and 4.5 W
- 5 school club memberships
-wrestling team
- Courses: Ap Stat, AP Euro, Ap Enviro, Hon Human Anatomy, Honors Global studies
- I finally took my education REALLY serious this year

SAT1 : 2030

Considering my upward trend in gpa what would be my chances at NYU?

NYU: High match

Might want to consider City College and then transfer into NYU…

Would NYU prefer an applicant with a constant well- achieving gpa, or would they like an applicant who struggled at first and them finished strong( as in my case)?

I would say that you’re a reach. you don’t have enough “quality” ECs. are those clubs connected in any way?
you need a leadership position or something unique in one of your ECs at least. something interesting

a student who has constantly done well is better off than one who has improved later on. nonetheless, it’s still good that you did improve

NYU:Low Reach
Not enough EC’s

Reach. GPA, EC’s, and test scores are all a little low for NYU. I recommend studying and trying to improve your SAT a little. Also, you should try to volunteer and become more active in your EC’s. As for your GPA, just keep trying to improve and take difficult classes.

NYU: Reach

Reach because of low GPA.

I’d try and make up for a sub-par GPA with superb test scores to make NYU a match.

Just fixing your test scores to 2100+ won’t make it a match. It doesn’t cancel out the GPA, especially with so very few EC’s, theres no excuse for getting a low GPA.

From what I read, 3.8 GPA is what you need to aim for even if you get 2100+ in SAT. You should probably look for more matching schools.

Since my childhood, i have struggled with Stuttered Speech Syndrome ( or just a REALLY bad speech impediment). Because of this, i was absolutely terrified of asking questions in class during freshman and sophomore year, and on days that we had to give oral presentations i often chose not showing up to class ( often getting 0’s for this) and just wandered in the halls, cuz the mere thought of speaking in public scared the hell out of me. This problem of mine also discouraged me from joining clubs in sport in my school.
But my view of my speech problems totally changed over the summer of 10th grade when i was able to obtain speech therapy lessons. As a result of this i was able to ask questions in class, boosting my GPA. The speech therapy also opened me up to the many sports and clubs offered in my school, because i finally found the confidence to speak in public.
