Hi,
I’m an international student from the UK and I’ve been offered a place at NYU for this fall. I managed to get a scholarship but its much less than the overall cost of attendance. My mum is a single parent who has 4 kids and sadly doesn’t have the money to just hand to pay for college. This really is the school of my dreams and my only other option (other than the extremely limited private scholarship applications for international students) is to apply for a student loan. At the moment it looks like I have to take out a loan of between $26,000- $42,000 per year to attend this school (depending on how much my parents are able to contribute). Since theres a possibility of being rejected for a student loan after the first year, would it be advisable to take out a loan for all 4 years first or do I have to take out 4 separate loans? Also does anyone please please please know of any good scholarship opportunities for international students?
Did they shut down all the sanely affordable options in the UK?
There is no secret font of scholarship money or loans for this.
Sorry, I meant my only other option if I want to go to college here…
Who will lend you that money? No US bank.
You cannot fully appreciate how lunatic your plan is right now. But your 40 year old self will thank you for not entertaining the idea of NYU for more than five minutes.
Take a walk around the block, congratulate yourself on getting in to NYU, and then evaluate the other options on the table. You cannot afford NYU and there is no scenario in front of you that makes it affordable.
Good luck with your other options.
Are there banks in the UK that will lend you $26-42,000 a year? There aren’t here, nor would you want to borrow that much for an undergraduate education. What is it that makes NYU your dream? I frankly don’t believe in dream schools - college is just a step along the way. I’d look at other options, because if you borrow $100,000 plus for NYU (assuming it’s even possible, which I doubt), it will become your nightmare.

That is an insane amount of debt. I doubt that your single mom is going to cosign those loans.
What is your career goal? Where else did you apply
FWIW, your American counterparts cant afford NYU either. It is notorious for giving poor student aid. Seek your dreams elsewhere.
Even IF a UK bank would lend this money…it would be INSANE to take out that much in loan money.for undergrad school.
Time for plan B…something that is affordable.
NYU is unaffordable for most students. The students it really wants get scholarships and not the others, because NYU figures some of them will be foolish enough to get into debt to attend.
Don’t.
If you got into NYU, you certainly have other, better options!
There are facebook pages and other blogs devoted to how unaffordable NYU is. Read them before going into debt.
