International Student: Accepted into NYU but don't know if I'll get necessary financial aid to go!

Hi there,

I'm from the UK and was accepted into NYU for this Fall and also invited to the Presidential Honors Scholars Program. I'm thrilled about my offer and having attended the admitted students day in London, I would love the opportunity to attend NYU in a couple of months.

The only thing that is stopping me is the extortionate cost to attend this wonderful university!
In the UK, we pay £9000 for university tuition and on average £5000 towards our accommodation for the year. £14000 is a lot nicer than the $60k price tag that comes with NYU! However, having tried university the first time in the UK for a specific degree program, I know that I really want to fulfil my dream of coming to the States to immerse myself in the broader more flexible curriculum that is better suited to me.

I have submitted the CSS Profile and have sent a TONNE of stuff to the financial aid office highlighting my family's circumstances. On paper, it looks like my family can afford to send me to college in the US but there are a lot of factors that I have highlighted to the Financial Aid Office that actually show otherwise.

Nevertheless I have been awarded $1100 as a CAS Scholarship which is nowhere near the amount that I need. I have spoken to the Office to appeal and they have told me to request an extension for the deadline in accepting my offer.

I just wanted to know if there are any other international students going through the same situation as me?! I really would cherish the opportunity to go to NYU but there's just this one huge obstacle in the way. I have UK universities in the bag but America would be the most ideal for me.

Does anyone know of any UK based loans/grants that would be of use to me in this point of time? I'm so desperate to come so I would appreciate the help BIG TIME!

Congratulations again to everyone else who was accepted to NYU Class of 2018! You all thoroughly deserve it :)
