*****NYU Early Decision 2 Class of 2021 Discussion*****

Hey guys  I’m applying ED2 also. I wish you all the best of luck. I haven’t even submitted my application yet and I’m already nervous ! Ahhh

@skoi123 sorry for the late late reply! Thank you so much for sharing :))

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Good luck to all of you New Yorkers or Potential New Yorkers!

I am applying to NYU Stern’s Finance major for the ED2 deadline from Belgium. Is it possible for someone familiar with NYU or an NYU international student to tell me whether or not, as an international student, I am likely to receive financial aid of any type? I submitted the CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE along with my application couple of days ago.

Hello y’all! I applied EDII to CAS first Biochemistry, second Philosophy. Excited to go in the Big Apple, And EXTREMELY happy to get results the 15th of February!
Btw is it the 15th or the 1st of February? they have always done the 15th but on the website they say the 1st…

Hey guys, hope everyone is having a restful break . Anyone mind chancing me? NYU Stern is my main school, CAS econ as a secondary. Torn between applying ED2 or RD, any feedback and advice is much appreciated!

SAT: 1380/1600 - 690 math 690 reading
GPA: 93 3.7
Ranking: Not too high (top 40%) but the school is relatively small and most students have extremely similar grades and classes.
APs: 5 AP’s taken- Language, Literature, Bio, Psych and Comp Sci (school doesn’t offer many AP’s so I took almost all of the ones they offer).

EC’s: Intern at the Crohn’s and Colitis foundation of America (I have Crohn’s disease personally so I share solidarity with the organization) - many leadership positions including Power of Two program and I help organize many of the events including the Take Steps Walks and Awards Dinners). I network with people through the Young Professionals group (meet with people who work at JPM, deloitte, guggenheim who also are afflicted with the disease). Many many hours dedicated to this particular EC.
-Owner of small business on eBay- $100,000 monthly selling limit and over 500 positive transactions and counting. I’ve been growing the business for roughly 2 years now, and I specialize in the sale of designer and luxury merchandise. Grades may be on the lower side because I run the business daily and it takes up a considerable chunk of my time.
-Varsity Rugby- 4 years of experience, many many many hours dedicated to rugby. Numerous team awards. My school greatly lacks in the area of EC’s and clubs, so I’ve dedicated all my after school time towards Rugby (only during the season)- there are literally NO CLUBS offered at my school- will colleges see this?
-Some miscellaneous volunteering at tutoring centers- adds up to roughly 80-100 hours.

Recommendations: One EXTREMELY strong recommendation written by my favorite teacher- I was able to read it and it nearly brought me to tears. Encapsulated everything I want colleges to know about me
Other strong recs (total of 4) 1 from the development manager at the CCFA and 3 others from teachers who are fond of me.

Essays: Main common app essay is well written (IMO) and I’ve talked about eBay and entrepreneurship and innovation (that sort of stuff). Supplement (Why NYU) - in the process of finishing it up, but I am writing something along the lines of business.

Hooks- Extremely low income student (I’m applying HEOP), widowed parent, first gen student.
My school is much lesser known, and yearly there are few applicants to NYU, much less for stern.

@NYUSternPls not bad at all. SAT score could be a problem, but circumstances might, and i say might, make up for it. You should use a lot the additional info section to explain some of your situations and decisions(talk about not having clubs in the school here maybe).

@TheLastofUs9 Thanks so much for your feedback! Yeah my SAT is lacking a bit :frowning: I realize that the average SAT for stern is around 1450. I just hope my background and my activities will make up for it.
As for the additional info section, how do you think I should format it? Like in simple bullet form or in a well organized written response? I was also thinking of adding my resume in this section (though it seems a bit pretentious) because I wasn’t really able to capture the full breadth of my influence at the CCFA.

@NYUSternPls NO RESUMES absolutely
They really don’t want to see that. What I did was explain my special circumstances as a brief text. Then I just sort of listed everything else(explanation on school and activities) and explained them more or less. What I would tell you is not to make excuses, and to elaborate more on extracurricular that you didn’t include but that you feel worthwhile and expand on those in the activities section.
Don’t feel compelled to fill up all of the space. You can use it also for posting results of exams that you can’t post anywhere else (DELF, IB, ecc).
Most important thing is no resume, as my college counselor told me that is the only thing to absolutely avoid putting in.

Can anybody chance me for ed2 cas?

Hi everyone! College Confidential is not my thing and absolutely freaked me out for three months, so I strongly suggest you get off before your pysch yourself out. I got into Tisch ED 1 this year and never got the FA change so please don’t stress and don’t let it consume you. My housing status changed to Freshman maybe 30 minutes before 5pm, so don’t stress about that either. Best of luck to all of you!

Do you mind sharing your SAT or ACT scores?

Unfortuantely 1310/1600 /::: but hopefully my strong ECs and essay will balance it more

Unfortunately****

Hey NYU EDII applicants, I was admitted to NYU ED1… feel free to message me with any question about the admissions process or about NYU in general! Good luck to all of you guys!!!

And @jesstennisxx your SAT is fine… I got into CAS with a similar SAT score and GPA. I know this sound cliché but NYU is really holistic and take everything into consideration! After just being in your shoes I was definitely worried that my scores would prevent me from getting in as well. But know that this process is over for me I can assure you that NYU is extremely holistic

Hi guys!
I’m an international student applying for CAS Economics
SAT: 1390/1600
GPA: not sure as i get predicted grades for my subjects but it translates to 4.0 unweighted and like 4.7 weighted, not too sure about it though
I’ve got decent work experience and extra curricular, i didnt travel east africa with michelle obama like 80% of everyone on here but i feel like i’m fairly okay in that department
My sister currently goes to NYU and i implicitly mentioned it in my ‘why NYU’ as i stayed in one of the residence halls for a few days.
I’m not going to rate my essays because thats too subjective but I will say I feel like they were really good.

I’m extremely scared I won’t get in though because of my SAT score etc.
Also in albert it says my standardized testing has been received but not my high school transcripts which i dont really understand as it was sent with the commonapp, i just wanted to see if this was normal?
Also is it possible to get an answer before Feb 15th?

@gnm259 I wouldn’t worry too much about the incomplete status checklist on NYU Albert. Mine shows my high school transcript as received but not my standardized testing. As said on the Albert portal, NYU’s Office of Admissions may take up to approximately 4 weeks after submission of application to fully update the status checklist.

Has anybody on this thread applied to NYU with standardized tests other than the SAT or the ACT? NYU allows a large variety of national examinations (i.e. IB, EB…) to satisfy the Standardized Testing Policy; however, I haven’t heard of anyone sending those in place of the SAT/ACT. Anybody here know of current or past applicants who’ve sent other national examinations instead of sending the SAT/ACT?
