********NYU ED Class of 2021 Discussion**********

Hey guys, if any of you are applying regular decision or ED II and have any questions please pm me… just got accepted ED 1 and would be willing to give advice

Is there anyone applying to ED1 but being deferred to ED2??? What does it mean?? Is it normal or not…Sooooo strange cuz it seems like I cannot apply to other ED2…

LSP is a super rad program! anyone applying to CAS and steinhardt should put it as their second choice. i honestly didn’t think they’d consider me, but if you show a sense of drive to excel in anything NYU offers, esp in your ‘why NYU’ supplement, the board will consider you for your second and third choice majors!

also, i got accepted into LSP (second choice major) here are my stats

GPA: 3.45 (sub-par for NYU)
ACT: 30 (if you have high reading and writing scores that’s a plus for CAS/LSP!)
essays: wrote about an experience that resulted in failure and how i came back from it, it was really funny and showcased my personality super well. just be you!
rec letters: all extremely good, i’m pretty sure in my choir teacher’s letter, she referred to me as a boy so typos are glanced over
extracurriculars: choir/theatre, speech, UIL academics, NEHS, lab assistant, a lot of volunteer work! (NYU loves well rounded students who will show interest in the things the university offers)
supplements: wrote about how i’ve always expressed interest in my major from a young age, threw in a couple of gossip girl anecdotes to spice it up (do research on your intended major! admissions officers love to see students who know what they want to do. search up various professors and talk about their research and how it influenced you to ultimately decide to apply to NYU)

also, before it’s too late… get off of this forum before people begin talking about the FA changes again…

@lemonlyman328 what mental illness do you have? did u talk about it in ur essay? if so, how?

@SouthToNorth Stern is a reach. Stern’s acceptance rate is 12%, probably lower for regular decision. The average accepted Stern student, as seen on college confidential and such. has at least a 3.7 unweighted gpa, 1500 sat, 32 act, and several business-related extracurriculars.

@koreanstudent i know many ppl who got into stern ed1 with 27’s on their ACT, so don’t psyche someone out alright? gpa and test scores are major deciding factors, but they don’t contribute everything

@SouthToNorth don’t waste time with these chance me’s, trust me, none of these ppl on this thread know what they’re talking about, only an NYU admission counselor can offer you the answer you need! good luck

@nrvsabtcllg

I applied to gallatin and put both lsp and cas as 2nd/3rd choices. i was accepted so i dont think itll hurt your chances at all if thats your worry

@SouthToNorth I’m a current Stern student at NYU and @koreanstudent isn’t entirely wrong. Stern is highly competitive and while @sofialicir is right about test scores not being everything, they still play a factor. Obviously I haven’t read your essays and personal statements, so I’m not the best judge of whether you’ll get in or not, but all of these facts are some to keep in mind. Sure, someone’s test score was a 27, but they also might run a start up in their spare time. You never know.

With all of that said, stay optimistic, your chances are just as good as everyone else’s. I wish you the best of luck!

@icequeen33 hey im also going to stern next year and can you answer a few questions for me? Can i skip Writing the Essay with anything? What dorm is the best for Stern students?

If i got a 40k scholarship for 2017-2018, does that mean it will be every year or just that year?? Has anyone gotten a scholarship for non freshman years??

@sewhite11 Yeah your scholarship is eligible to be renewed every year as long as you keep the grades they require for that certain scholarship.

Hey… i know it’s a little late for this but does anyone know of any group chats on like kik or group me? It just seems like other people are talking with admitted students at other schools…

Hey guys is there a group chat?

Recs: AP Chem (9/10) AP Calc BC (9/10) Guidance Counselor (8.5/10) Internship (10/10) Paid Work (8.5/10)
Interview: None
Essays: Personal (9/10) WHY NYU (8.5/10)

FA Change and Housing Change: had absolutely nothing whole way through. However, the hour before, I’m pretty sure the housing changes to freshman. I did not check, though. So DO NOT worry if you haven’t got any changes.

Why I think I got in: Recs were good bc I was close w/ teachers and counselor. Essays I thought were very solid. And most importantly, my extracurriculars. I think my ACT was slightly below the AVG, but I think the rest of my application made up for that.
