NYU ED/financial aid advice??

Hi, my name is Jessica. Ever since I began my college search, NYU had the top of my list. I think I have a decent shot at getting in, so I was considering applying ED, because it would just be my dream to go here. The only thing is, NYU is so expensive... and I know there is financial aid, but I'm a Canadian citizen, living here with a greencard. So 2 q's:

1) Is it hopeless to expect decent financial aid, given my circumstances?

2) Do you get an estimate of your aid costs with your acceptance letter, should you be acceptance? I know that you have to fill out the ED financial aid form, but if you're not able to pay for it, what happens?

Thanks!

As an international ( As a Canadian you’re not AS international as someone from China let’s say) your FA would probably be limited.

1) Sorry, but unless you’re a TOP student, then yes FA will be a problem.

2) I don’t think so, but you should call the NYU FA office.

Shoot. That makes me want to cry. Thanks though.

Sorry! I didn’t want to give you that emotion, I just act too blunt sometimes! You have to keep your head up!

If you are here on a green card you are not considered an International for US schools for either admission or financial aid purposes. With a green card you are a permanent resident.

Having said that, NYU is renowned for poor financial aid and tends to offer a lot in loans. I would recommend applying for some financial safeties (schools you can afford) as well as NYU. If financial aid is a necessity the general recommendation is to not apply ED (except perhaps to schools that meet full neeed without loans - NYU is not one of them) as it means you cannot compare financial aid packages.
