Just to make sure I'm not missing anything. NYU's supplement is 3 500 character essays?

Not essays, but short answer, yes.

And if you are applying to Abu Dhabi, then there is an additional essay that must be uploaded. If not, then the three short answers is all that there is.

Do you think I can go over this limit? I’m 89 characters over

If you’re over the limit, common app will automatically cut it off… :S

shadow,

It is amazing how much “froth” and extras you can cut out if you have to. As I recall, my son cut his Principal’s Leadership Award essay by two thirds of the original length. I could not even stand it since I felt he had to skip some “good” stuff. However, it turned out it was good enough for him to be one of the state winners even with all the “axing” and “chopping” done.

Ya, i understand. but this is a 500 CHARACTER essay.

Yeah, for a relatively big award, the PLA essay was not long in length. Something like 1 double space page. However, the point is that you can shorten whatever you want and still keep the main essence of your topic in your written communications.

It is amazing how much can be conveyed with 500 characters if you are creative and SUCCINCT. Last year NYU required a poem to be written for one of the short answers.
MY son was able to describe a main characteristic of himself and depicted himself in a very active form in the pursuit of social justice with several short lines. Very effective, very purposeful, very authentic, and to the point.

If this is not your strong suit, you might consult with someone who can help you edit or abbreviate your thoughts and communications.
