I just got accepted for Fall 2013 (Gallatin) & I checked my financial aid package on the website and it said:

Gallatin Scholarship: 46,610
Pell Grant: 3,895
Federal Work Study: 3,000
Federal Perkins Loan: 2,400
Subsidized Loan 1: 3,500
Unsubsidized Loan 1: 2,000
Federal PLUS Loan 1: 3,699
Aid Year Totals: 64,104

I'm confused. :/ Is that a full ride? B/c I thought the full cost for in the 40k's (unless that's only tuition). Also, when I click on "Financial Aid Summary," it says Total Cost of Attendance is 64,104, which is what they offered me, so that's why I thought it might be a full ride. But I've seen other students on the boards that said their total cost of attendance is in the 40k's. Is it b/c I'm an out-of-state student (I'm from California).

Also, does anyone know what exactly that Gallatin Scholarship is? :) And is it renewable? :)

Thank you so much!

Hey there,

I’m a current Gallatin student (Freshman)

So here’s a breakdown on your financial aid package. What you really got is $46,610. Everything else on there is subject to change except maybe your pell grant. If you choose to take out loans then you add more to the amount you get. Also know that work study funds are not guaranteed. So basically, your tuition is pretty much paid for and all you have to do is pay for room and board. If you dorm, I’m assuming so since you live in California, then I advise you not take out any loans. It’s really not worth going into debt for living space. If you have to then in your case it wouldn’t be too bad since your loans are pretty small. So anyways, you received a great package! And Congrats on your acceptance!

sarah-NYU tuition is about $43,000. A dorm room plus meals plus books and incidentals will add approximately another $20,000. So that’s how you get to the Total Cost. So,yes, it looks like you got a “full ride.” The Gallatin Scholarship looks like some sort of grant from NYU (not a loan). Call the financial aid office to verify. Congratulations!!

If money is a problem, then I suggest going for the cheapest dorm possible. Rubin, really isn’t bad. I prefer it over hayden and you also save money. So if you choose Rubin, 14 meals a week, and have not-so-costly books then you will have to pay about 13-15,000

It’s $12,000 a year in NYU-facilitated loans, which means you graduate $48,000 + interest in debt. The Perkins loan is the best in terms of interest rates, the unsubsidized is probably the worst, because the interest starts accumulating as soon as you take out the loan (not once you’ve graduated). $3,000 a year in work study is around 13/14 hours of work a week, I believe.

I was accepted to the GLS: Paris, but for the financial aid page on Albert it says ‘Award access not available.’ Does anyone know what this means?

I’m getting rather anxious…
