I'm interested in a journalism (business or international, haven't worked that bit out just yet) and Middle Eastern Studies. I applied to the Newhouse School and was rejected; I was a bit turned off at that point. I realize Newhouse has a great reputation in the undergrad journalism world but I honestly feel that I exceeded the "average Newhouse acceptee" in terms of stats and extracurriculars. I was admitted to the CAS at Syrcause but now I need to decide between Syracuse CAS and NYU Gallatin. Cost would be an issue for both being that both their financial aid packages were less than sufficient. But in terms of actual academia, what should I do?

I'd say if you're still serious about transfering into journalism, Syracuse is the way to go. My only interest in Syracuse is Newhouse.

By the way, I was accepted into NYU too, but I've picked Syracuse over it. Campus was a big factor in my decision though. So was the strength of the PROGRAM, rather than just the school in general.

It isn't too hard to transfer from CAS to Newhouse at SU. I think the requirements are that you need to be the top 15 percent or so applicants that apply for intrauniversity transfer. The requirement I believe used to be a 3.5 flat.

I chose SU over NYU journalism. I just didn't think I belonged at NYU- it's very liberal and independent, and I'm pretty structured. SU socially isnt the best fit either, but Newhouse makes it worth it. It isn't too difficult to transfer to Newhouse if you get good grades.
It may just have been an especially strong applicant pool this year.
