I got into both as a transfer and am a bit conflicted. I love the idea of going to Newhouse and working with students that care as much as I do, but I'm from upstate and just don't want to stay upstate any longer! Emerson is amazing... I love their facilities and the people there seem like my type-- and it's away from home in an amazing city. Syracuse offered me about 33K in FA, and I have yet to hear from Emerson (they say early May.)

What do any of you think? Are any of you in the same boat trying to make a decision?

What exactly is your major? Sounds like journalism, but Broadcast, newspaper, magazine? That might help make the decision. Also, you are right about Syracuse having a lot of Upstate students. And Boston’s environment can’t be beat. So it might come down to your major and $$$.

yeah… broadcast journalism. tonight I need to make a list of pro’s and con’s to figure everything out. but like i said, not knowing my FA package from Emerson is a big factor. on april 27 i’m going to SU to visit for the accepted students day, it will be the first time for me seeing the new facilities. deposit is due for SU on May 1 and Emerson on June 1, do I want to risk the money and put one down on SU anyway? or just wait it out… because here’s another thing-- according to my professors, historically Newhouse takes very few credits from my current program, so I’d be looking at another 3 years as opposed to 2.

how were the new facilities at SU? I will be going on the 27. Are you RD or a transfer? I’m a transfer and from my professors currently, they don’t have a lot of positive things to say about Newhouse and those there. While I am greatful to have been accepted, the more I start thinking about Emerson and being in Boston with a million amazing opportunities and the same kind of people with a much smaller, more concentrated focus on what I want… my decision is getting clearer and clearer every day.

Have you visited Emerson? Where are you from?

It’s pretty easy to compare the programs for each school. But how important is the environment to you? Emerson is in the heart of Boston, one of the top college towns in the U.S. You can’t beat the location. Syracuse, on the other hand, has a terrific program. But the location is not great. At all. All that grayness can be depressing. The weather is similar in Boston and Syracuse, although Syracuse seems worse because there is less to do on those cold, dreary days. Boston is easier to get to, and get out of. But Syracuse (Newhouse) is a better school with great networking. All of this may be important in making a decision. You have to live there for four years, while you study!
