I applied to all as an Art History major and wrote an essay with several art references. The AP English teacher said it was unique and brilliant.

NYU - it’s really hard to say. also, financial aid circumstances would matter here. you may stand a decent chance of getting in, but i don’t foresee for you a huge FA package from NYU (assuming you’re applying for it. if not ignore this) so ask yourself if you’ll be able or willing to fork out a large amount of cash towards NYU’s exorbitant fees.

GWU - i really don’t know much about this, other than that it was expensive. if i recall, it was the first college in the US to go past the $50k-a-year mark. your FA package here (once again if you’re applying) will be better than NYUs and you stand a better chance of getting in here than getting into NYU.

BU - i’d put my money on it and say you’re in, unless there’s something in your soft factors (essays, recs, e.t.c) that screw you over. i don’t foresee that happening if you’ve put effort into your application and choose teachers who like you. so look forward to a probably acceptance here.

Columbia - i don’t like to tell people they have no chance, so i won’t but i also like to be frank, so i’ll tell you that you have a minimal/very low chance here. columbia has become one of the most selective schools in america (if i recall correctly, perhaps even the most selective, if we’re talking about CC and not the engineering school) and it has been notoriously harsh on people who have been applying with near perfect stats (i.e. 4.0GPA, 2400 SAT and such). also, the lack of anything genuinely special is going to hurt you badly. for a reference, ask around and compare yourself to graduates from your HS who have gotten into columbia. however, bear in mind that when you get the letter from columbia, it’ll probably be a no.

vanderbilt - i don’t know much about this college but i’m guessing its standards to be around that of NYU as far as admissions go. with that assumption i’d say you have a chance of getting in, but don’t expect a large FA package here.

emory - i know almost nothing about emory so i can’t comment, sorry but based on its position alone, my comments on vanderbilt may roughly apply here as well.

NYU - Low Reach
GW - High Match
BU- High Match
Columbia - Impossibility
Vanderbilt - Reach
Emory - Reach

Your SAT is solid for most of those schools, but your EC’s are really lacking. Also, a 3.4 UW isn’t going to fly at a lot of those. You did apply to some safety schools, right?

And for God’s sake don’t major in Art History…

I definitely applied for Financial Aid from all of these places, my parents estimated amount to contribute or whatever that is called is only about 5000 dollars.

I appreciate your frankness. The past two or three people I recall getting into Columbia from my school have been primarily art related. One was one of the best young artist’s I’ve seen, and the other I only remember because he failed out of my algebra 2 class, but he went for writing.

This sounds pretentious, but my school has a very good report with some of the best colleges and they know that a 3.4 from my high school, isn’t the same as a 3.4 from any other school. Our regular classes would be considered Honors or X classes at any public school, our AP classes have been compared to level 3 college classes.

Hahaha, now that I’m done making excuses…
I was sort of counting on Boston being a safety school, I’m also in at IU-Bloomington with a 5,000/year scholarship.

I’m so jealous your school offers AP Art History!
Great stats, but what exactly are your awards? They can make a big difference for making you stand out from the crowd.
And I agree that BU is practically a safety.

I agree with the predictions most ppl have been making so far, though I wouldn’t call Columbia an impossibility, I think that you can get in if you have the right level of art, which obviously I wouldn’t know. But based on SATs and grades alone, it’s definitely a reach.

you should def. get into GW and BU. but idk about columbia, if you did well in your AP classes and on the AP tests than Columbia is a reach but im guessing that you’d have a slim chance. idk anything about vanderbilt and emory, sry
