Hey!! I’ve recently been doing some research on NYU’s Global Liberal Studies major, and I couldn’t find all too much info on it. The program, at its face-value, seems like a COMPLETE dreams with areas of study in art, history, philosophy, etc. and it majorly based in reading/writing. On top of that, you can study a full two years abroad with much emphasis on culture and language. Although that sounds AMAZING, I’ve heard that there is a stigma surrounding the GLS program, saying its not real or that its for folks who don’t get into NYU CAS or so. In addition, their alumni seem to not be doing much… and their field of work isn’t exactly what I expected. Maybe its just because I personally don’t want to work for the government or whatnot. Anyway, any info would be greatly appreciated, especially how hard it is to get into. Thanks
if the job fields aren’t what you’re interested in maybe don’t but for the ‘for rejects’ stereotype maybe it doesn’t mean much knowing that getting into NYU alone is hard
Hi!! I’m currently at NYU. There’s a small stigma around Liberal Studies (although that’s dumb and it goes away after freshman year) but there’s almost no stigma around Global Liberal Studies, it’s seen as a major in and of itself. I myself am studying International Relations in CAS and I seriously considered transferring to GLS. What fields are you interested in? A lot of people compare it to IR, just international studies instead of relations. If you’re not interested in working internationally it might not be the best path for you, although there’s lots of things besides politics you can do with it
