I wanted to start thread for prospective NYU HEOP students because I know I have alot of questions and would love to speak with someone who knows what i'm going through, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RESPOND HEOP STUDENTS!

I also am wondering about HEOP, I want to know when we will hear back so I talked to some counselors (via email and phone) and they said we will here back with our admission decision. I just thought we might have an interview or something before then, you know?

Hi! I applied under heop regular decision and i had my interview in february. I got the award access not available change on albert so hopefuly that means somethingc:

I got admitted to Poly under regular GS program but I also requested HEOP and so my interview this coming Tuesday. I hope I get HEOP. If not I’m still admitted.

Did you hear anything about the interview/ review of documents session at the end of February? Because if not you didn’t meet some requirement to be referred to HEOP

Wait something changed for you on Albert? My didn’t lol I hope that doesn’t mean anything. Also do you live within the boroughs or outside? @lilmelonred CONGRATS! I got alot of information on NYU poly but I didn’t apply, is it a different school?

Apparenty if your financial aid status changes from “no financial aid data available” to “award access not available” it basically means youre in, atleast about everyone who got the change for early decision got in. And i live outside the boroughs in westchester

Thanks! NYU poly is not a different school. NYU poly is soon to be called NYU Polytechnic school of engineering. Its a college within NYU. So if you want to study engineering at NYU, you will be studying at Poly. That school is known to be the hardest college in NYU.

@0osparkleso0 Yea I heard that too, I wish people who weren’t accepted would attest to what actually happened with their financial aid too because the only people who post about it are people who have been accepted. @Lilmelonred what exactly is the difference between GS and HEOP. I know there is a difference I just don’t know what it is.

In addition has anyone who applied and were refereed to HEOP gotten the infamous FA status change yet? I wouldn’t be worried if you haven’t yet because when I spoke to a woman named Tinesha Ross from the eligibility department, she said they are going to completely review eligible HEOP files starting Monday March 18th. I JUST WANT TO KNOW! UGH! I applied as soon as the application for RD became available. IN addition about how many students were accepted into HEOP who applied ED I and ED II because I know that spots are limited.

@romelw13: Yes there’s a slight difference between GS and HEOP. HEOP is for the academically and financially disadvantaged kids. Both programs you need the summer program, tutoring and counseling. GS allows you to have the option of taking the summer program online and you don’t get the financial help while HEOP does. GS program is only a year program. So once you complete a year of GS, you are now a regular student at the school. For HEOP, you are a HEOP student for 4 years of your undergrad.
I believe GS program is only offered to Poly kids.

@romelw13 im so anxious to knoww too ! I applied at the end of december and submitted the last of my financial documents a few weeks ago. Perhaps i got the status change because i went to the first interview they had scheduled on february 13th? Either way theres still time for everyones status to change, its weird how my status changed but they still havent reviewed my file yet :/

@lilmelonred oh ok I see, well thank you and good luck with the costs NYU is so expensive! @0osparkleso0 maybe they just love you so much in the interview they just decided YEP THEY’RE IN! lol Well goodluck with that, I know im so anxious I will probably be posting in here again very soon lol. @0osparkleso0 are you on FB or anything like that?

Yes NYU is very expensive this is why I requested HEOP. Hopefully I get HEOP after the interview. Over 42K a year for tuition and fees x_x. Why does college gotta be so expensive. I just want a darn education. Is that too much to ask for?

I’m going for an Info session on Wednesday… What happens during the session? :D

You basically go to the assigned room, and they give you a presentations about the program. They tell you the requirements, how they help you financially, all the opportunities you have available. After the presentation you have the chance to ask questions. Then after the presentation you have some minutes to fill out a sheet asking you personal academic questions. Afterwards you are divided into groups with other students and you are interviewed in groups. They person interviewing asks question and each person take turns answering it. After she finished asking questions she make the group lead a discussion about a certain topic. She just sits there and observes what each one has to say and takes notes on your “personality” or writes down her observations. All this usually takes about two hours. Don’t forget to take the proper paperwork because anything you don’t take you’re going to have to fax it to them ASAP!!!

Thanks for the info…I’m so nervous Good luck to everyone :D

I don’t understand how they are still interviewing with the decision date so close, I wonder how this works. I thought with the volume of applications they got, that they would be almost done with decisions at this point. I don’t think I will ever understand college admissions! lol If anyone hears of someone who got accepted to HEOP PLEASE post here as soon as you hear.

I just got interviewed today. I think i made it sound like i’m not fit for the program… But I think I gave my interviewer a good impression.

@lilmelonred What do you mean? What did you say that made it seem like you weren’t fit for the program? When I had my interview I interviewed with the older woman and in comparison to what everyone else said about their interview experience, I feel like I may have gotten the short end of the stick because we weren’t allowed to talk or have a conversation or discussion we just answered a few questions and she talked for the most part. I feel like I didn’t get a chance to show who I am or what I could contribute to NYU or HEOP :(
