Nyu heop transfer

Hello,

I am planning to transfer to NYU in the next year, but there is no way I can afford it without solid financial aid. So my plan is to get into HEOP (Education Opportunity Program) that helps financially and educationaly disadvantage students.
Right now I am a SEEK student at my home college. SEEK Program is also an Education Opportunity Program at CUNY's.

What I know for sure, is that it is possible to transfer from SEEK to HEOP. I called NYU and they told me that at first I need to be admitted as a regular student and then apply for HEOP.

I wonder if there are anybody on this forum who has sucsesfully transferred to HEOP from another education opportunity program or at least tried to. Please, share you experience with me.

Thank you!

Hello lampochka,

I am not sure who you spoke with within the university; however, I have heard numerous times that you must be an incoming Freshman to enter NYU’s HEOP. The Program only admits students directly entering “Higher Education”. This may have been changed within the past few years though. I understand that the Liberal Studies Program can now be applied to directly.

Sorry for the seemingly unfortunate news.

Thank you for your reply NYUKidd!

This is what I have being told as well, so I decided to call the NYU Admission Office. I am not sure who exactly I talked to, but it was someone from the HEOP office. The lady kindly explained to me that transfer is possible if (and only if) you come from another Education Opportunity Program. She also added that this will depend on the amount of available sits, which is different every year.
Well, on the web sites of other universities that offer HEOP, such as NYU Poly and even Columbia, it says exactly the same: other Ed. Op. Program + regular transfer admission = chance of getting into HEOP.
But anyway, thank you! Maybe you are right (I hope not, hah!)

I think it all depends which Opportunity Program and school you come from. They look at your qualifications. I know when I was applying to colleges, I was not placed in any opportunity programs because I was “over qualified”. Apparently my grades were too high for SEEK, NEOP, etc. But at NYU i was accepted via HEOP. So they may take what school you go to into consideration. Like a SEEK student from queensboro community college will face more difficulties in admissions than a HEOP student from Fordham or Columbia.

Thank you for your reply HeyleyC! :)

Did you get into NYU HEOP as a transfer?

Hmmmm… I go to 4 year CUNY. Obviously students from HEOP Fordham or Columbia will have more chances, but I think that I am… a pretty strong applicant as well :D

no, i’m not a transfer. i’ll be a freshman in the fall.

Congratulations!

Well. May the Force be with me.
