Hello everyone,
I did not take AP Courses, but I want to get involved in NYU Honor Calculus I when I start my freshman year at NYU in the fall of 2011. I have done independent study on Calculus, including integration and differentiation and their applications. Is it possible to take a placement test and get involved into the program? When will the placement test be held? Anyone from NYU knows?

Well i got enrolled into calc honors 1 cuz of my ap scores. From the courant webstie, there is no placement exam for honors calculus. What you could do is take placement exams to get placed into calc II or calc III depending on where you are on the subject. you could email beth markowitz: bm71@nyu.edu. She’s the undergraduate program administrator.

Calculus placement tests are given during welcome week. Watch the schedule and sign up for the test. My daughter was given incorrect advice during her summer orientation last year and was told that she’d never get into Calculus III in the fall, since the courses would be full by then (she had already taken AP Calculus and got a 5 on the AP exam, but the placement tests were not given while she was at NYU during the June orientation and she couldn’t sign up for Calc III without having taken the NYU placement test–this caused her to have to sign up for Calc II, which she had already taken in high school) Guess what happened? Since her advisor convinced her that the course would be too full to sign up for the fall, she didn’t take the placement test, only to discover that there was plenty of room in the Calc. III classes in the fall. Because of the misinformation, she didn’t take the placement test and ended up having to repeat Calc II in the first semester, instead of going into Calc III right away. They will not let you into Calc. III without taking the placement test, no matter how high you scored on the AP exam. Good luck getting into the course you want. I hope you get in!
