Hi! I am a current freshman in NYU Steinhart. I am a String performance major and I want to be studying business. Before I even applied I knew I wanted to be a business major. I have a resume and I've been working in the entertainment industry (on the business side of things) all my life. When I initially applied to NYU via the common app, I said I wanted to be a string performance AND business major. I got my Steinhart acceptance shortly after. I accepted it and did not think anything of it. Little did I know, you cannot double major between Stern and Steinhart. I was also promised a scholarship from Steinhart which got taken away. It was a really messed up situation and everyone at Steinhart was apologetic but that did not make up for the fact that I went from paying close to nothing for school, to full tuition. I am now paying full tuition for a degree in string performance and it is not relevant to my career at all. I love playing violin but it would have been very different if I was not paying for a performance degree. I don't want to be a professional violinist, I just love playing. A business degree makes more sense for me and it will pay off. I am also very passionate about business and being innovative is a beautiful thing in my opinion.
I will be applying to Stern for fall 2015. Everyone is discouraging me from trying because "it's too difficult to transfer." People are saying I won't get in, but it's the only degree I want to be getting from NYU. If I can't transfer to stern, I will be stuck paying for a degree that will not pay off. I've looked into CAS econ but I can't apply to both for fall. So any advice would be welcome regarding this transfer.
Current academic standing-
1st semester freshman. Grades are still rolling in but I'll probably have a 3.7 or 3.8.
My schedule this semester:

Music theory
Aural Comp
Orchestra
Violin Lesson

Next semester

Intro to marketing- but I'm waitlisted (SR)

I hate taking the music classes but they're a requirement. Any advice is welcome- essay tips, who I should speak with, classes I should take, opinions on my chances, anything at all! This is really all I have wanted since day 1so I'm hoping it works out. Thanks guys!
