NYU is my third choice

I've been told that I have a long shot at getting into my top 2 (UCLA and USC). I would really prefer to not leave LA, but NYC is the closest thing there is. How much importance does NYU put on test scores? Mine aren't hot (1850-1940) and my GPA is only 3.91 W, 3.4 UW. My subject tests are ok, my top 2 are 740 US and 650 Math 2. I have 4 and above on my 4 AP exams and this year I'm taking 3 more.

I have killer essays though, especially my common app one, I'm ranked in the top 6%, URM and unemployed single parent. My main ECs reflect leadership and passion for politics and being a leader. I was also editor on the newspaper for 3 years. I have a summer job which I use to save up for college.

Do I have a chance at NYU?

Thank you

yeah your test scores are really low… def a reach

You think NYC is the closest thing there is to L.A.? Just askin’…have you been to NYC?

As someone who grew up in LA and has gone to NYU for three years, I’d say he’s absolutely right. NYC and LA are pretty similar. NYC is more dense and tall with different weather but the culture is on the whole really similar. The adjustment was absolutely minimal.

I was just saying its the big city thing. I could never handle a smaller quieter place.

I’m just mentioning that you could not get any farther from LA than NYC…

I’m a current freshman. Your test scores are a bit of a reach, but that actually around the ball park of what I had and I got in. So you should at least try applying, you never know what may happen. I feel as if your extracurriculars and other qualifications do make up for your scores. I would also suggest applying to UCLA and USC as well. You could make it a point in your admissions essay (to those two colleges) that those are you top choices.

Good luck!
