I was recently offered admission to New York University and Washington and Lee. My undergraduate studies will involve journalism and social work, and my graduate studies will focus on Law. I was admitted into NYU with the expectation that I will spend my first year abroad in London; thus, I was placed within LS. I did not apply for LS, so I was a little confused as to why this happened. NYU offered me a scholarship totaling $45,000; however, I do not know if this award will be given all four years. Washington and Lee offered me close to a full ride guaranteed for all four years. I am in internal tumult as I try to make a decision. NYU was my dream school; I never believed I could be admitted into W&L. Please help me by providing any advice. Note: Financial Aid is critical to my family because they are not funding my education; the loans are all on me.

I’m in a similar situation, except with Stern at NYU and a business major at W&L. Virtually full ride at W&L, 45k scholarship from NYU. W&L would put you in a better position for Law, W&L is good at sending people to law school and they have their own though it’s not a great one. Journalism is good at NYU and if you can excel at journalism at NYU you will be fine. Your NYU scholarship should be renewable given a certain GPA, you can definitely give them a call. I’d really do W&L if I were you as long as you’ve researched the school and you think it’s a good fit.

@helloyellow24 what school were you admitted into? Social work and journalism are in separate schools, and I’m not sure that you can do both? In addition, if you are in CAS, journalism is a required double major, which means that you would have to pick a second major in CAS to complete as well.
