NYU ranked 5th for unhappiest students?

I saw on the Princeton Review that NYU was ranked 5th for least happy students. I've had this notion for a while too, and I just wanted to hear opinions from current students. I got into Stern and am debating on if I should go there or to UCLA. Is this true? If so why do you think?

They picked the 300 people who just happened to be really unhappy?

Search this forum for ‘Princeton Review’, and the answers will be really similar to last year. Expectations, debt, stress levels of living in the city, the strong desire to MAKE IT in New York as opposed to just being in college, etc.

Yeah pretty much the above.

talk about a subjective ranking…

It’s gotta be the debt. Just look at the tuition

Not everyone here is in debt, though. And I remember last year’s poll. Out of something like 20k students they interviewed THREE HUNDRED PEOPLE.

How is THAT fair? Talk about survey fail.

Survey’s sample size isn’t about being fair. It’s about having a representative sample. No way of knowing if the sample was representative of the undergrad student body just from what’s been posted here.

Regardless, lots of people choose to go to NYU for the wrong reasons. That’s why people are so unhappy here, relatively speaking.

rankings, tbh, are bs. i wouldn’t trust them, they bash stern so much when we have such a great program here. its pretty ridiculous.

I say the massive debt is a gamble worth taking if it means going to NYU.

But are YOU guys happy? Or do you think you could be happier somewhere else.

I wouldn’t dream of being anywhere else.

reasons some people are unhappy at NYU:

way too much crazy debt

don’t feel a part of the community

stressful city life; not as indepedent as they thought

pressure of classes/jobs/internships

mental illnesses often start surfacing 18-25

excess drugs and alcohol

Whenever I see someone on CC saying they’ll take out $60k-$200k in loans, I tell them straight up it’s a stupid thing to do. When I see someone saying they want a traditional college experience but are turning down State U for NYU because of rankings, I tell them it’s a stupid thing to do.

Unfortunately, hundreds of people come here for the wrong reasons each year.

I wholeheartedly agree with Alix on this.
