@heycall123 your FA of $37K is in grants and scholarships, if so CONGRATULATIONS!!! If i was offered that, i would definitely be attending.

@SlamDunkz2496 it seems you qualify for the program, and I truly hope you make it, just call them Monday and express your genuine interest and see where you are in the list… I hope you also applied to some match schools. I applied to only one match, 2 safety and the other 7 were reach schools… denied 5 of the 7 reach schools and then FA not enough, so I guess it will be the match school… GOOD LUCK!

I didn’t think NYU would be a reach school but I did get in to my very decent and respectable state school, Washington U, and UCLA. Granted I too was rejected/waitlisted from all of my reaches (dunno how WASHU happened but not Berkeley and NYU). Yes I’ll definitely accept the waitlist offer! But on their website they say don’t call and that they don’t have a waitlist number…so I’m not sure what to make of your advice versus theirs. @leb2014

@SlamDunkz2496 yeap you are right… go figure sometimes… we all have heard similar stories, students that get accepted and others that seem higher qualified don’t… I know a few… and congrats on UCLA and WASHU… and don’t follow my advice (it was more of a common sense to know where you are in the WL), but if the instructions are not to, then don’t… hope all works out for you.

I got a $40000 Steinhardt scholarship, but I would be looking to transfer to Tisch for film if I go to NYU. Does anyone know if my scholarship would go away or be revised if I transfer to Tisch?

@jnavarro725 uhh if you transfer to tisch may i have your scholarship?! Haha my Steinhardt scholarship was literally $1000 Was yours for the honors/scholars program?

Accepted into Stern!!! I’m so happy
Also got a $24,450/yr Stern Scholarship and $2,500/yr John J. Weiss Scholarship! Does anyone know what those are based on? There’s nothing to be found about the Weiss scholarship online (is it need? merit?) but ahhhh this was all such great news! I’ll almost definitely be enrolling! NYU Class of 2018!!!

hi! did anyone else here apply for biology (joint program with the college of dentistry) and get in? i’m not sure whether this means i was accepted to the 7 year dental program at nyu or not. can anyone help? :o

@sfxchris
I just finished speaking to the NYU financial aid office, and they assured me that the Liberal Studies Scholarship will be renewable all 4 years even once I enter Tisch in sophomore year.

I guess the same applies to you, since we’re both in the LSP - Tisch Film Track.

An update on my financial aidd/CSS profile misunderstanding: I called NYU and they were able to find the documents they said I were missing. They sent me my financial award … $40K from a Gallatin Scholarship. I’m crying so hard. Now I just have to loan the rest which is still a lot of money. But this offer is so generous. Im so thankful. NYU hear I come.

@realfruitjuice, as an international ,you are lucky to receive merit scholarship of that amount. I receive nothing. I am a US citizen but I am not qualified for financial aid. With 32 ACT UW4.0, top 5% of our class, , good ECs, I expect to receive some amount of merit based scholarship to offset my room and board, I am offered dual program CAS, BS physics and BS engineering. I am now thinking twice of going to NYU.We are comfortable but not that wealthy and I can’t bear the thought of letting my parents pay the whole amount of more than $66,600 a year. Other schools offer 12,500K merit based scholarship which I can use to offset my room and board.

@Ghost95, Do we need to submit application for merit based scholarship? As I understand just like all other schools I applied, merit based is automatically looked at whether you apply or not for financial aid. I didn’t submit application for financial aid because I already knew that I won’t be getting any but I expect some merit based scholarship.

Other schools offer 50k merit based scholarship for 4 years, which is $12,500 a year.

Hello I got a 40k scholarship from Gallatin on my financial aid award. It doesn’t have any special name. It just says “Type: Scholarship. Name: Gallatin.” So I’m assuming it’s just from the school itself. Now I was wondering if that will that be given until I finish university,or is it just a yearly thing I have to renew? Also I didn’t get any grants do you think I can appeal to them?

NYU’s merit scholarship is based on financial need. It says so on their website. In other words no matter how great your stats are, if you have no financial need, you’ll get nothing. We found out the hard way 2 years ago. When we called financial aid office to try to appeal that’s pretty much what they told us.
