Hello, I am a student who got accepted to NYU Shanghai.
- I heard that professors in NYU Shanghai are really nice and friendly to the only Chinese student as NYU Shanghai was originally built for the chinese student who does not have a lot of money so can't get "well-known" college's diploma. For instance, most faculties are Chinese and Chinese who do not speak English very well always get good grades in their English class as a professor is Chinese too. Does anyone have an idea about it if it is true or not?
Definitely not true. Currently study here and will tell you that it goes both ways. The largest struggle is understanding accents overall, but you typically have a mix of international and Chinese professors. Ironically it’s not difficult to find that those who understand accents and teaching styles will do well in the class, while others might not. That being said (and don’t follow my example), there have been classes I have completely skipped and gotten an A, others where I have attended and struggled to get a B. The professors are more than willing to help you, and compared to the New York campus due to Shanghai’s size you can get done in 2 minutes what would take 2 weeks in New York. My suggestion is approaching them with anything as soon as possible, because they can only help you given the amount of time they have, and how many points you can get before the semester is over. Feel free to ask any questions, it’s a painstaking adventure here.
