Does anyone know anything about which is the best group to audition for? Can you tell me anything about the different groups? Hard to find out any info online. Thanks in advance!!!!!

I only know one sketch comedy troupe at NYU and it is Hammerkatz NYU. My daughter went to NYU but was not in this group. However, she is very good friends with many who used to be in it, including her boyfriend. In fact, since graduating three years ago, she is in a comedic musical cabaret group that performs weekly in NYC and many members of their cast used to be in Hammerkatz as students (the cast are all Tisch alum). Several are working professionally now in sketch comedy. I can’t offer you a comparison with other groups at NYU but this is definitely one of the best, if not the best, one.

My son founded an improv troupe last year at NYU called After School Special. Make sure to check that one out. Hammerkatz is good but they don’t take too many people.

I suggest auditioning for more than one group too because it is competitive to get into these groups! My D was not in a sketch comedy group in college (though is in one now), but she was in the most competitive a capella group there and they can take only a handful of new people per year.

Supportive, it is great that your son started an improv group!

(keep in mind that improv is not the same as sketch)

New York Improv?

It’s CHICAGO that is the home of Improv, not New York!

KEVP

I’m not sure the point of your post. For one thing, the OP is a student looking to join a student/university improv or sketch comedy troupe.

Further, there is plenty of sketch comedy going on in NYC as well… such as at Upright Citizens Brigade and at the People’s Improv Theater (the PIT).

My son auditioned for your son’s After School Special last week and got in!

tweetygirley- Wow! How cool is that! Congrats on your son getting into the troupe!
