NYU Stern acceptance rate around 10%

For those curious a friend of mine was at the Stern presentation at Weekend on the Square, they were told that there were about 8,500 applications for 550 spots in the class. Stern's yield rate is about 60% making the acceptance rate about 10%.

eh… I might sound really stupid, but what do you mean by 60% yield rate making the acceptance rate of 10% ?

That they offered admission to NYU Stern to 10% of applicants, and about 60% of those applicants who were offered admission choose to attend NYU Stern.

8500 apply. They accept 920 and of those, 60% decide to matriculate giving a class of 550.
The 920 offered acceptance/8500 applications is about 10.8% acceptance rate.

I got the 920 by extrapolating class size by yield 550/.6

The yield rate for stern is not 60%…trust me. It’s more close to the 30-35%% mark.

Let’s look at the colleges around NYU.
Down the street at Columbia, the yield is around 57.5%.
Across the river, Princeton’s yield is 56%.
NYU overall yield is about 35%, so I doubt Stern is at 60%, esp. since they don’t give much funding. But I would put Stern a bit higher than the NYU overall 35% yield though.

If you put that in perspective with NYU’s ‘extremely generous’ financial aid package, the yield isn’t too bad.
