NYU Stern Or Rutgers Business Honors?

Okay. I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between the two. I'm just going to lay out the facts. It's a lot to read, I know. But seriously, any input would be REALLYREALLY appreciated. I'm stressing out.

For Stern I got the Stern Scholarship. It's $20,000 per year. It's based on both financial need and merit. In order to maintain this scholarship I need to demonstrate similar financial need while at NYU and maintain a certain GPA. (I tried looking for the GPA I need to maintain but couldn't find it anywhere, does anyone know what it is?)

I also got a work-study worth $3,000 a year. But according to my research, I have to earn all that money on an on campus job to get that, correct?

So altogether that's around 80-90 K out of the about $220,000 paid for. Still leaving about $130,000 for my family and I to pay.

I also got into Rutgers Honors Business. I got the Presidential Scholarship. It's $96,000 for all four years. Which I guess is full ride. It includes tuition, room and board, even food. And it's the honors program, so I guess I'd get the perks of that.

So hopefully you can see my dilemma. If I were to go to Stern, my parents and I would need to still pay a lot. We can afford it, but it will definitely put some economic stress on my family. Tighter budgeting. A bunch of loans, that I will partly have to pay off myself for many MANY years to come. But on the plus side, it's stern! I love the city. It's been my top choice for a very long time. I wouldn't call it my dream school (I made sure never to get too attached to any one school.) but I definitely looked forward to going there. I also applied Early Decision there. So if I decided on Rutgers, I'd need to rescind NYU. Does anyone know how that process works? (Like, will they hate me? lawl.) They said I could rescind if based on economic reasons, which this would be. So I'm hoping it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Anyone know?

Rutgers on the other hand, is still a great school. I wouldn't really mind going there. And it's free, giving me more time to focus on other things rather than worry if I'm able to work/ pay off my tuition. And apparently the honors program really grooms you for business. Gives you individualized attention. Helps get you great nyc scholarships.

ANY INPUT WOULD SERIOUSLY BE HELPFUL. i'm so dazed and so incredibly confused right now.

What are your career goals?

I’m honestly not 100% certain. Probably finance. Maybe international. I wish I had a more definite answer, but I really don’t.

How much money would you and your family need to borrow to go to Stern?

If you have Wall Street dreams, I’d go to Stern. Otherwise, Rutgers.

There are many successful people on Wall Street who did not go to Stern!

The Rutgers Honors Program sounds like it will open doors for you, with the possibility of very desirable internships, etc. Why go through all that financial stress & paying off loans for years just for the “name” ?

I am sure your parents will want to retire, too! They would be in a better position to help you after graduation from Rutgers as well! Maybe help you with grad school, new apartment, new car etc! Best of luck, it sounds like you will be very succesful, no matter which school you choose.

I say go to Rutgers now and then when you’re doing Graduate School, go to NYU. Undergraduate today isn’t that important and if you get really good grades all throughout your 4-year term at Rutgers (Honors Program), you will get into NYU like that for a graduate program.
I totally understand your situation. I wanted to apply early to NYU, but I couldn’t because I didn’t know how much financial aid they would give me and my parents can’t afford paying more than half of the tuition. (I didn’t know you were allowed to back-out of the ED acceptane at NYU?)

Go to Rutgers. I know someone who went to U of Albany and now makes big bucks on Wall St. You don’t need to go to NYU to be successful and having gone to the honors program at Rutgers will probably add cache to your resume. Just my two cents.
