NYU’s institutional aid seems to be largely based on having high stats and high need (both).

So, asking what others rec’d really doesn’t mean anything. What you might get will be based on your need and stats.

I am assuming this is for a bachelors degree. If so…read on.

NYU has a Net Price Calculator right on their website. Run YOUR family finances through that and it will give you a good estimate of your potential aid at NYU.

If your parents are divorced, your parents are self employed or own their own business, or if they own real estate in addition to your primary residence, the Net Price Calculator could be a little off. But if they are employees who receive a W2 for wages earned…the NPC can be pretty accurate.

Mom2 is correct. What OTHERS have gotten is meaningless. NYU is a Profile school now but wasn’t a couple of years ago. In addition, NYU aid considers both the strength of your application AND financial need. The strength of your application would have to be identical to someone else’s for their package to matter…but even then, you will be applying in a different admissions round. Things change from year to year.

The only thing is i dont know whats a low finiancial situation. My parents made 59,000 in 2012 and since my dad lost his job we are prob only gonna make 45k for 2013. How much money do you think ill receive?

What do you mean “coming in with an associates degree”?

I have no idea what your potential aid will be. So…take the time, and run that net price calculator.

thumper1-- the student may be an early college student who has already completed an associate’s degree through HS coursework.

i attended a dual enrollment program in junior and senior year of High school. The program was located in a local community college. This allows me to graduate with both an associates and hs diploma

i just did the calculator and it said that ill prob get 30k in need based scholasrships considering the fact that i didnt upload any grades. So does this mean that if stern give me more money like merit based i add it on top of the 30k?

They might…but the cost of attendance at NYU is almost $60,000 a year. I’m only guessing, but I would guess that any merit money you get would not be $30,000. Plus…what I don’t know…if you get merit money at some schools this actually reduces your NEED. In other words, your need based award would be less because of the merit you receive.
