My D was committed to Villanova business school but she recently got off the waiting list at NYU Stern. She wants to major in finance or consulting. She was really excited about Villanova college experience, likes campus, the community and school spirit. The Stern name and location would offer more opportunities but she is not sure of college experience at NYU with no campus and covid19 adding another uncertainty. She likes the diversity at NYU but there is no school spirit. She likes the traditional campus experience at Villanova and that’s how she had imagined her college experience. Villanova did give some aid and cost of attendance at Villanova is 20K less per year than NYU. She wants to work in NY after college and therefore, we believe Stern would give her advantage but not sure whether she would enjoy city life for college years. Will Stern really open that many opportunities? Any thoughts on college experience at NYU Stern? Any advise or thoughts on things to consider is greatly appreciated.
I’m probably very late on this, but GO TO STERN. Do not give this up! Half of the new hires at Morgan Stanley all come from Stern and the reputation it has is unprecedented. I go to Kelley (a top ten business school) and my finance opportunities are great so I can’t even imagine what it is like to go to Stern. If she goes to Stern, she will no-doubt get a job even if she graduates with a 2.5 GPA (I am not exaggerating at all). People know Villanova, but it isn’t top ten and people don’t know it as well nationally and it won’t open as many doors as Stern I promise.
