I am a senior in high school, hoping to attend NYU Stern (my early decision school). I am definitely not the smartest kid in the world, but I have something that no other high school senior has: a business (a quite successful one). I own an entertainment business providing sound, lighting and live hosts/singers for weddings, sweet sixteens, corporate events, etc. In the past 4 years my business grew from a one man team with ubiquity in only Central Jersey, to a 7 man team with world-wide presence. As you can probably tell, my life is super hectic, being booked every weekend. Tying in school work, and family responsibilities with my 2 little brothers makes my schedule very tight.

In school I have been the Treasurer for FBLA for the past 2 years, and the PR for Interact (a major volunteering organization) for the past 2 years.

My course load junior year was mostly honors and 2 AP's, and this year is mostly AP classes. My GPA is a 95 weighted. My SAT is an 1860. Though I may not have much talent in the school work it self, I have plenty of street smarts, and extra curriculars that not even adults can possess.

One other point - to be a business man and to be a good business student, you need to have good amicable traits, and diversity. These are two qualities in which I have under my wing. Also, my job is to do business with executives and people who make hundreds of millions of dollars a year. I speak with 26-50 year old clients every day of the week, and this has truly helped me as an individual. One last side note, I also produce music and play almost every instrument. I have had a love for music since age 5. I produce music that you hear on the radios, in the clubs, at weddings, etc.

So after telling you all of this, would anyone be able to inform me on whether I have a decent chance of getting into Stern, ED. I already applied, but I kind of want to know my chances so I am not completely in shock. Thanks a bunch!!!

Wow awesome credits! Please chance me back…

Pros: your experience/work and I’m not sure what a 95 gpa is on a 4.0 scale, but I assume that that is very good. Your honors and AP courses are good. Will you send in your score??

Cons: 2 things, your SAT is really bad. Like you need to score 200 PTs higher, I assume, to even be on the lower end for Stern.
And I hope you sound a lot less cocky on your essays/sups. For the essays, it’s important to be a little humble while bragging about your achievements. Let them know that you have experience but still have a lot to learn too. Eager to learn, you know? That whole shbang.

I think you have a decent chance…maybe towards the lower end though. But like I said, depends a lot on how you came across. They don’t want a cocky student who’s “too good” for everyone.

Dude, your stats are way too low. YOu have a nice ec in the business you started, but your stats are just very low. I’d say it’s a reach for you right now. CHance me back?

I would turn you down just based on the fact you said 'I play almost every instruments". There is no such thing on earth, and even if I play more than 10 instruments, I wouldn’t even tell others that “I play almost every Western instruments”, not to mention Asian or other exotic ones.

It’s good that you have a business, but how successful that is is for the admission office to determine. It’s a plus for you, but given your SAT (only a 2200 is a solid go for Stern), I’d say you have a 1% chance.

I agree. ur scores r low. But i think that as long as u write stellar essays that rly expand upon how u grew ur business and the lessons u learned thru the process, i think it will balance out the bad SAT score a bit. however, i would still try and retake the test to see if u can score higher.
