I will be living at NYU this summer for a law internship/class at Cornell University extension campus. For some really stupid reason NYU will not give internet access to summer residents unless you are a current NYU student. I am wondering if there is any current NYU students who would be willing to share there user/pass with me so that i can get into the net for a few months this summer. I realize this is a lot to ask but i will do whatever nessacary to prove my trust or thankfulness for the use. PM with any ideas you might have to help me, I am wiling to neogiate to make this work.

It's not so simple. You need a NetID/password to register your computer with the network - your computer's hardware will be associated with your NetID. I imagine ITS would quickly pick up on two machines attempting to register with the same NetID. Either that or ITS will wonder why an NYU student who is not supposed to be in housing is suddenly on the network.

I strongly suggest that you don't do this. You could endanger your housing status or the status of another student.

Which building are you going to be in? Many buildings have a computer lab or two.

Honestly, our network is set up the exact same here at WSU and there is probably no way the IT dept. would actually pick up on that. Sorry i just dont buy into that. Secondly there will be a lot of NYU students in housing as well being that a lot of NYU students take summer classes and so forth. I will be living in Brittney Hall Dormitory, and like i said i know for a fact there will be many NYU students there as well. Thanks for the advice, but at this point im still going forward with my plan.

There'll be a lot of other people around, but even if you try to use the login of someone else, it won't work. (I tried once. :D) Heck, when you switch rooms here, you have to wait for ITS to manually reset the connection on the wall, so it'll allow you to register your computer.

shades is right. It won't work. Many have tried, none have succeeded.
