I’ve been struggling to find the answer to this question for quite some time now, so I’ve decided to post it here. I’m also decently young so forgive me for my ignorance. I want to go to school for Musical Theatre but as a back up, take a minor in education/theatre education (just to earn my teaching credentials). And wqhen researching NYU, I realized that I liked Tisch’s Musical Theatre program more than Steinhardt’s (as I’m more of an actor than a singer and I’m hearing that Steinhardt is more musically inclined). However, I love Steinhardt’s Educational Theatre program (of which can be taken as a minor). So my question is, in terms of applications and tuition, are they two different schools or would they both under the umbrella of NYU?
While they are two different schools, they both fall under the umbrella of NYU. My Tisch daughter is minoring in Politics, which is in CAS (the College of Arts and Sciences.) We do not pay tuition to two different schools - only to NYU.
You should be fine - if you get into Tisch for MT you can take classes at other colleges within NYU, including Steinhardt and it’s very easy to declare cross-school minors. If you go search the Musical Theatre major forum you will find that many people have asked about schools where you can combine MT with academic degrees or minors. You’ll want to have a broad list of prospective schools as admission to MT programs is unpredictable.
