NYU Tisch professors - Film

Hello!
I'm entering in the fall as a freshman at NYU Tisch for film & TV and class registration starts soon. I was wondering if any current students could recommend / not recommend any professors, and if you had any experiences with specific professors you could share. I'm doing visual semester first (Frame & Sequence, Language of Film, Visual colloquium, and Writing the Essay).

Thanks!

Hi, I know that I’m not really responding to your question (sorry  ) but would you mind sharing your stats for getting accepted (SAT/ACT, GPA, class rank, ec’s, etc.) and an idea of your profolio…NYU Tisch film is my DREAM school and I just keep second guessing myself.

Sure!
I actually go to school in Germany, so I can’t tell you my GPA or class rank because the system here is totally different. I can tell you German is not my first language so my grades in heavy writing courses are awful. I hear for film & TV, they put a lot of weight on your portfolio and ECs. So if you have mediocre grades (like me) but a stellar portfolio, you’re more likely to get in that someone with stellar grades and a mediocre portfolio. =)

ACT: 28
SAT subject test (German): 750
SAT subject test (US History): 710
(As far as I know, Tisch doesn’t require SATII, though)
APs: US Gov - 4; Music Theory - 5 (I took the tests but not the classes)
Awards: National Chinese Honor Society; Scholarship to National Security Language trip to China

ECs:
-Attended Sundance Film Festival 2011 & 2012
-Made 40-minute documentary for Religion class called “Finding Faith” and received a regional award
-Participate in monthly “Directing Actors” workshop
-Internship at Disney Channel on “Wizards of Waverly Place” (slightly embarrassing lol)
-Freelance photographer and film editor (Liviosa Productions)
-2 Poetry awards
-President of Media & Communications, International Club
-English tutor
-Club Volleyball

Portfolio:
They ask for 4 parts: 1-page arts resume, collaboration statement, short story, and creative submission. The resume’s important. They want someone who really wants it, not someone who decided one morning “I wanna study film”. Creative submission is also important. I submitted a short story, which is the opening scene of a film I’m working on. They want to know you’re a “visual storyteller”, so if you can articulate well, I suggest a story. I also sent them the url to my vimeo but no clue how much impact that had. FYI, though, kids who submit films as their creative submissions are GOOD. Make sure film is your strongest medium before deciding to make one! You can also submit a screenplay, but make sure you’re format is correct. You can buy software (like Final Cut) to help with that.

I think that’s it…lemme know if I’m missing something. All in all, I’m really not very strong academically, but I’m a strong writer and very involved in the arts. What’s your info? I’d love to help any way I can! =)

OMG! Thank you so much for responding! Hmm. I took the ACT and got a 28 .It’s not my best but I can’t really complain considering I just woke up and took it. lol. I do plan on taking it again (aiming for a 32 with test prep) after I recieve my SAT results from this past june if they aren’t up to par. Now I’m a little nervous, I don’t think my EC’s are very strong and they are not film centered
