I'm currently a freshmen at SUNY Stony Brook, but I was preparing to transfer even before I came here, and one of my choice is NYU.

My intended major is computer science, and I am already taking upper level (200 number course in sunysb) for CSE; I am pretty confident about my capabilities in CSE department.

but that is what I CAN do; what I want to do is actually music...

it's sad how our world is forcing us to limit our choices, (in my thought, money shouldn't be a property of humanity)...most jobs are just given choices within what the previous so-called 'developers' of humanity thought the society needs in order to operate (ex. law-, medical, business), so even if certain people actually dreams of doing that job, it's really just a small component in an infinite loop of cycle... nevermind, that's just my thought

anyway I played guitar (mostly electric for blues, mixed jazz) since I was 10 or so. I got to say that I have many songs in my mind just waiting to be recorded, and I did perform quite a lot during high school; 50% my original songs, and other half was Stevie Ray Vaughn and John Mayer covers. I can improvise instantly, play what I hear, and enjoy at the same time.

But I am very unsure of how my life would be if I choose to become a full time musician, so I am planning to major in CSE and join music department at the same time. Also, I am Korean, so I think that's another discouragement that I have in mind...Potentially, almost all of the popular musicians (in soft rock/blues/pop genre) are white...I know that there's a lot of great Asian musicians in this field, but they're hardly recognized by the public.

Being that said, if I apply to NYU Tisch for Recorded Music, is it required to major in that department only? and what exactly does the Recorded Music department do, in terms of material and opportunities?
