First, congrats to all those who received good news so far!
I have a terrible(?) decision to make, and I would like to receive some advices from you.

UCLA has been my dream school for years, and happily, I recieved the admission letter! ^^ My major was undeclared, by the way.

And also.. I received a letter from NYU (Tisch) for its event called Saturday at the Square. People say that the invitation mean I am admitted to the school of film and television that I applied to. And NYU is a top college for this major!!

What is your opinion on this? I live in California, an hr from UCLA. But I don't want to lose the chance of attending the most prominent film school in the nation.. what do you say?

I do believe that the invitation does mean that you are "in". Contact Admissions directly and ask them specifically if this means you are in. We did that last year with my S when he was invited to a breakfast for Stern scholars(Business School). I called the admission office and asked that directly. They said "yes" that this means they are accepted. But it may be different for Tisch.

There are some cheap flights right now on certain airlines. Try and go and ask all the questions you can to figure out if this would be a better place than your dream of UCLA. My S has a roommate in the Film School and he loves it. The film program is considered one of the best in the country. You walk around the Village and the East Village and you run into film students everywhere.

You are in a lucky and enviable position. Good luck with your choice. I don't think you could go wrong with either!

The invitation means yes, you have been admitted, congratulations. Since you are torn it is best that you do visit, get a feel for each school before making a decision.

You already know that cost is going to be a major issue, considering the fact that you can attend UCLA in-state for almost half the cost of attending Tisch (so you will definitely have to sit down with your parents to discuss whether or not Tisch is "worth" (whatever worth means to you) the cost).

If you go to the parent's board, you can address your question to Soozie or Alwaysamom, both who have kids at Tisch, and are loving it.

Again, Congratulations and good luck with your decision

I also got this same invitation in the mail (except mine was from Steinhardt) and I am so glad to read that this means I also have been accepted!

One thing stands in the way of me being completely happy about this result
. I brought this invitation to my guidance counselor and unfortunately she said that this was just a form of hooking kids to the school, in case they do get accepted. She explained that this does not mean that I was accepted 100% but it is a positive sign. She also added that the reason why colleges do this is because studies have shown that most students go to the college that they first hear from, which is why NYU has chosen to send out these invitations before April 1st, which is when the regular decision results will be received.

Im praying that I was accepted into NYU. This would be a dream-come-true for me because NYU was my first choice.

Are there any other opinions on this topic?

thank you so much for your comments! they were really helpful!!
