Our daughter will be a rising Junior this summer and is interested in applying to a good summer program. Her goal is twofold: 1) She wants to sample a school she might want to attend and 2) she wants to expand her skills.
With that in mind, we are looking at NYU. We are flummoxed as to which program to pick–and it seems you can only apply to one. If anyone has any experiences to share on any of these programs and their utility, it would be most appreciated.
Also, is it worth the expense? I could not help but note that some of the schools they are repping in the program have their own summer offering for significantly less money.
My D did the NYU summer program in 2013 - and absolutely loved it. She did new studio MT. A couple notes with cost - you do get 6 college credits - which, like AP or Dual Enrollment, can save you $$ later. And it included tickets to 8 broadway shows in the 4 weeks. (With a talkback from performers after the majority of them)
Fyi- Not all studios participate in summer -for example, Adler, which ended up being my D’s primary studio, does not. We picked NSB b/c at the time, my D was planning to be an MT major. She loved New Studio - and even though she ended up deciding to be part of an acting studio when she eventually attended NYU for actual college, the connections with faculty she made there were influential in some shows etc she was a part of.
My daughter did the NSB program as a rising junior in 2017. She loved it. Saw 10+ shows in 4 weeks. Gave her a good sample of dorm life and college MT training. It’s expensive but the 6 college credits may be accepted by her eventual college program. She’s auditioning there next Friday for the undergraduate MT program. I know she will feel more comfortable at Tisch after spending a month there.
@Youngweb - having been at the summer program meant my D started her NYU audition with a round of hugs and “we’re so happy to see you” which certainly helped her confidence. BAL to your D!!
