Hi!
I’m going into my sophomore year at a CT state university. I am in the university’s Honors College so the university’s liberal arts (or general education) requirements are replaced with Honors classes.
What are my chances of getting into NYU Tisch for Dramatic Writing or UCLA Film, TV, and Theatre? I hope to apply for Fall 2018 Transfer admission.
Right now, I am working on and editing a few scripts to use for my transfer portfolios. I know both programs are highly selective, but is there anything that I can work on that would increase my chances of admission? For example, are there any sure-fire ways I can stand out in my writing portfolio for either of these schools?
- Tisch asks for 3-4 examples of creative writing that do not exceed 25 pages in total. At least one script (screenplay or play) should be included.
- UCLA is more narrow, asking for one creative example of about five pages.
Student Profile (I included high school stats even though I know they won’t be that important in my admission chances)
College:
- Current major: Interdisciplinary Studies - B.S. in three concentrations (Communication, English: Creative Writing, and Theater)
- Major GPA: 3.9 / 4.0
- Minor: French
- Cumulative GPA: 3.45 / 4.0 (brought down by a D in Microeconomics during my first semester; should be brought up to a 3.6 or so by the time I transfer)
- Member of university’s theater group (front of house, sound board operator, set construction)
- University Choir
- Assistant Art Editor for university’s art and literary publication
In my major, I have taken theater production, literary analysis, and critical thinking courses. Next semester, I am enrolled in Intro to Fiction Writing, Directing I, and Intro to Visual Communication. I plan on assistant directing a university production in the fall (God willing).
High school:
- GPA: 3.5 / 4.0
- SAT: 1910 / 2400
- ACT: 27
- AP Scholar
Thank you in advance! I hope this thread can be used by fellow transfers for either school.
