Hi, so I am applying to transfer from UCLA to NYU for fall 2017. I am applying to Tisch Drama - I know that my app to Tisch is supposed to be 50% academic and 50% audition, so in this post I want to focus primarily on my academics.
I currently have a 3.85 at UCLA, majoring in Communication Studies and in my second year of uni right now (so I don’t need to submit test scores, woo!). I’m not really sure but I’m pretty sure my gpa stacks up pretty well for NYU?
My main question has to do with the essays: I’ve read people are supposed to be very specific in the “Why NYU?” essay, however so far in my drafts of my essays, I’ve written more generally about why I want to go to NYU itself, and in the common app essay about why I want to transfer, I’ve written very specifically about the Drama department and why I want to be in it. Is that going to hurt me? I’m only applying to NYU so it doesn’t matter that my common app essay is specifically about NYU. I’m just nervous that my why nyu essay is more general while I’ve been told that it should be specific. Also, am I going to have trouble because I’m transferring from another big university? I feel like most people transfer from community college and I don’t really know how NYU views transfers from somewhere like UCLA.
