NYU Tisch Waitlist 2018

did anyone else hear of other people getting accepted off the waitlist?

Thanks everyone. We got an email at COB on Friday. It does not state studio and the financial aid page says access denied. But we received an acceptance congratulations letter. Cant wait for the office to open on Monday. We need to decide by May 1, the letter says. Good luck everyone. Does anyone know how much is Tisch Drama without Aid or scholarship?

@rbtonic when my D graduated last year I think the cost without aid or scholarship but including room and board was about $72,000.

@jbtcat Thank you

Anymore news anyone?

Hi @Rbtonic. I sent you a message. I wasn’t sure if the CC community likes when we post actual data. :-S

@rbtonic - with tuition, room, board and mandatory fees, it is $75k. I am not sure (I am visiting tomorrow and will ask), but I don’t think this includes their “Jan Plan.”

Btw: we didn’t receive any merit aid and my S had fairly high (though not perfect) academic stats- we don’t qualify for FA. I met someone who said her D got $5k in merit aid (also not eligible for FA).

@MomofJ5 Do you know if Tisch is still accepting people? I’m not entirely sure how they go about doing it. I’m so anxious!

Stay cool @GabeLeeOhHoney - the process takes time. They will release waitlist spaces as they start to get above a certain percentage accepted students turning down their spots and they will continue that until they have their critical mass accepted and then they won’t take any more. Breathe deep, if they haven’t finished admissions you still have a chance… but it could take a month or more to know for sure.

@MomofJ5 - taking classes during J term is extra- but their dorm will be open to them. (My D liked to go back early, see shows, settle in etc)

Tisch does not give merit aid without need. NYU Steinhardt does give merit to art and music students without need (including those pursuing BM in Vocal Performance with MT concentration)–but not Tisch. Financial aid is possible to anyone whose EFC is below the cost of attendance–which is $75,080 for 2018/ 2019.

@uskoolfish - I’m not sure the website says never merit aid without need, but it did suggest that mainly the aid went to the kids with need. I wasn’t shocked (except by the tuition/room,board, fees).

Has anyone heard of any updates?

@MomofJ5 The main NYU Website for financial aid lists school-wide scholarships and all the schools that offer scholarships and their requirements. Tisch is not listed as having school specific merit aid.

Here is the link. Scroll to the bottom and you’ll see links for specific schools. Tisch doesn’t offer anything. Click on Steinhardt and you’ll see mention of their music and art scholarships without need.

@ginaf1102 I guess I’m an oddball. I like Factual and Real Data. It’s the scientist in me  I’d love the actual data too

@uskoolfish - you are right. Any lurkers… no merit aid (unless applying for financial aid) from Tisch. The merit aid fairy followed these guidelines exactly and didn’t show up on my S’s acceptance.

Same - from what I read, NYU in general separates into “need” and “no need” and proceeds from there. General university aid goes to “need” students in different ways, both FA and merit, but “no need” students only get merit within specific programs/schools, and Tisch is not one of them.

I’ve been waitlisted for photography & imaging and wondering if anyone sent emails? Not to appeal, but to emphasize that you exist?

Hey guys- reporting that my S declined his NYU offer today. Loved the program- but couldn’t make the money work. It’s just too expensive a school and city for where he is right now (and us too )
