My S got an official email yesterday stating that the “waitlist is officially closed”. Actually OK with this as he would have turned it down had he got in. He is very enamored with BU. This chapter in his life is now over.
We received the same email. I must say that while my daughter would not have accepted should she have gotten in. She did receive that one email that appeared to only go to selected applicants that stated “there may be room…we continue to be interested in your candidacy…please respond within 22 hours”. Then nothing…not a word. It seems that years’ past if a waitlist candidate received this email there was a strong indication an offer was coming. I must say, that overall I am not impressed with this tactic. It almost seemed as though they were doing a data grab for future statistics to make themselves look even more exclusive. NYU admissions if you are following these threads…which I believe you do…please remember that these kids are not numbers. They are humans who have worked their tails off at the hopes of great opportunity. They are eager to make a mark on this world. If you don’t want them…don’t take them. Don’t give 15,000 kids a waitlist hope if you are going to only take 200 off that list. That is a gross underestimate of your admissions process and you can do better than that. You are one of the best universities in the world. Make it count!
