Hi guys! I’d always thought transferring would be hard but I never imagined circumstances would be this chaotic lol.
Question: Does anyone have advice for what housing to choose that’s both affordable and relatively cheap? Do transfer students get to choose?
Would it be more worth it to find an apartment off-campus? and I’m open to looking for potential roommates.
Also, since these are chaotic times just whatever questions, advice or answers that can be provided for life at NYU in the fall would be appreciated. THank you!!
Hey! I transferred last spring and I lived in Gramercy this semester. If you want something nice and affordable, I would live in Jersey City (it’s a 15-minute train ride). The apartments are really nice and you can find something for under 2200/ month which is about what I pay for NYU housing. I picked Gram because it was supposed to be one of the nicer dorms but it’s not worth the 20-minute commute (you either walk or take the bus or subway but it all takes about the same time). I really recommend living “on” campus the first semester after you transfer because you’ll probably have a crazy schedule bc you’re getting the last pick of classes so like IF you can I would live in the freshman dorms. It’s like 2 people in a dorm with your own restroom.
@yumyums123 Ohhh okay thank you! Are you looking for an apartment next semester? My dad says it’s not worth the trouble but I think I might take that advice and look into it
Curious to know if you decided to live off campus or try for NYU housing? Hoping that they can give me good news, otherwise I won’t be able to go
@alwayshp394
Can Transfers get housing, or is it only reserved for freshman?
Transfers can apply, but it’s not guaranteed. They go onto a housing waitlist.
I’ve applied as a transfer, but they only give housing to transfers if there’s openings. They provide resources to search for off campus living though. As I am out-of-state I am hoping for good news with housing!
@alwayshp394
Same, If I decide to accept the offer and enroll I’m hoping I can get off the waitlist for the housing.
What resources do they provide for off campus living? can’t find it on there website, do you have a link?
@College85903 Honestly it’s just as nerve racking as trying to get into the school! It feels like my future at the school is hanging in the balance…
