NYU Transfer Thread - Fall 2010

Just to double check with you guys: if the netid thing doesn’t work, we know that doesn’t mean you are rejected. However, if it does work, does that mean you absolutely did get in, or are there cases where that is untrue as well?

I got into CAS pre-law, which I know isn’t journalism/poli sci but hopefully this helps:

HS GPA: 3.3 weighted? Haha I had an awful start…
SAT: 2010
College 1st semester GPA: 3.3 but that wasn’t really my fault since I slept through a final. Talent, huh?
Extracurriculars: Violin for 11 years, guitar for 3, I speak 3 languages and am learning two, a fair amount of community service plus some other stuff but I wouldn’t say anything really extraordinary.
Awards: I won a gold medal in an Agilent robotics engineering competition

I’m pretty sure I got in solely on a pretty awesome/unique essay and some good short answers. My stats suck haha.

I called today to try to get my decision over the phone but the person I spoke to said that my decision letter would be out this week. I asked if I’d be able to get my decision over the phone and she said no. That can’t be good.

PS: bergdorfbrunette, I mean this in the nicest way possible, but how is it not your fault that you slept through a final? Anyway, congrats on your acceptance!

I meant that the GPA wasn’t so much a lack of effort/work on my part as my now being completely immune to BlackBerry alarm noises =)

Yay! Got into NYU Stern. Called them just now because my NetID thing worked and they told me over the phone.

Congratulations collegefreak!

Stern School of Business Class of 2012!

It seems like most people applied to Stern got in.
Congrats guys!

So it’s June 2, the mail came and nothing.

I got accepted to USC and need to tell them if I’m attending asap.

Do you guys think if you havn’t heard anything from NYU at this point, it’s safe to say it’s a NO and move on with life??

Also, I didn’t get a SGR or e-mail…and I know some of you were able to activate your NYU emails, I couldn’t, so I’m assuming no?..

Please let me know your opinion/input.

Thanks guys!

I believe they sent out the last batch of responses yesterday. I called today to try my luck at finding out, but they just said that they sent it out yesterday and I should be getting it no later than Friday.

I do have a question, though. I could access my NetID and I do have an NYU email through it. Does that guarantee acceptance or should I not bet on that? :(

Thank you! And Idk…I wouldn’t BET but I’m like 99% sure it’s a yes because why would they allow students who aren’t accepted to get an NYU email, you know?

I’d be happy if I were you : )

I was able to activate my USC email and the next day received the acceptance package in the mail…so I think this whole email thing works.

Good luck!

So we have to pay an additional $1000 alongside the housing application? What was the point of the $300 added to the acceptance fee then?

When I called NYU they said that they were behind on their decisions. Some people had been accepted, some people waitlisted, others rejected, but MANY had yet to be decided on.

I told the counselor that I spoke to that I needed to know NOW I had been accepted elsewhere and my deposit was due June 1st. The counselor (who was very nice) said she would get back to me with the decision that afternoon, called me within two hours and told me I was in.

I say you call, tell them your predicament, be nice, but urgent and they’ll let you know (if they don’t let you know call back and try to get a different counselor on the phone).

Cannot wait any longer! I want to know where I’m going already! Orientation for UNC is on June 11th and since I haven’t heard from NYU I’ve been unable to make travel arrangements…

Has anyone received scholarships? There’s no way I could afford $55,000ish yearly (and I don’t want to take out that much in loans) and I doubt I’d qualify for much financial aid-- I know that NYU never really gives much…

waitlisted for Stern my friends. Is everyone that got into Stern going by the way?? haha Wish all my fellow stern applicants all the best.

Got my decision over the phone today–rejected. Dissapointing but I’m glad I have another good option. I’ll be attending UNC Chapel Hill next fall. Have fun at NYU everyone :)

For anyone on the CAS waitlist, good luck! I withdrew from NYU today so that should be at least one spot :-).

Okay called again and they said I got accepted to Gallatin! Wooo. The NetID thing is definitely dependable. Goodluck to all those who haven’t gotten responses yet, I’m still waiting for my packet too.

Who here was accepted over the phone but still has not received a packet yet?
