NYU vs Tulane vs IU

I was recently admitted into Tulane and IU Kelley (wohoo!!), but before this my plan was to apply to NYU ED2. I think I still plan on applying to NYU through the ED route, but I’d like some feedback on which of my options is likely going to be better. Unfortunately, I’m not too sure about costs right now because I haven’t received aid packages from either Tulane or IU. From what I’ve been told so far, NYU is probably the best option for what I want to do but I’ll elaborate a bit more on each school.

Tulane - likely a Finance major and CS minor, might apply for Altman Scholars depending on what happens with NYU

  • didn’t get any merit scholarship unfortunately, and not sure how aid pans out w/o it
  • visited, in nola – eccentric city but unsure if I’ll flourish there
  • i’m aware of party culture at Tulane, i want a healthy balance of both that and academics
  • new business building, really nice facilities – i think decent networking in the south (texas areas esp)

IU Kelley - MIS major

  • didn’t get any merit scholarship from what I can tell, I’m not too sure where to check this
  • have not visited Bloomington, from what i’ve heard it’s a beautiful campus but very very very large student body – not sure if i like this; probably prefer a smaller environment. i also like access/close prox to large cities.
  • IU Kelley is very well-respected, probably the best on this list. might have the best networking opportunities as well.

NYU - CAS Econ + CS

  • not applying to stern; might try to transfer into it after first year but if that doesn’t work out then I’m perfectly happy with my dual major
  • i LOVE nyc. i honestly feel like its my calling.
  • i haven’t visited NYU, but i’ve been to NYC so I imagine it’s not too different given that it’s integrated into the city
  • econ still respected at NYU, but better networking opportunities at Stern
  • CS is well-respected; courant is very very good

Thoughts?

I think you need to get a really good feel for what the cost of attendance would be at NYU before you can consider committing there EDII. NYU is one of the most expenses colleges in the nation. IMO, Tulane without merit is not worth the cost unless you get great financial aid. Have you applied to any in-state colleges that you are excited to attend if accepted?

For NYU you’re looking at $70-80K cost per year. Their NPC is a joke. It is also a very big university. Go where you can afford it.

@NYDreammom @socaldad2002

Unfortunately, the NPC’s don’t work for me because we own extra property. We rent out a house that we renovated because of a fire. I’ve talked to my parents about NYU tuition and from what they told me, we have a college fund so I can afford to ED. I showed them the tuition costs of NYU as well. My only instate options are Miami University or Bowling Green State. I was directly admitted to Miami Farmer and think that it’s a very respectable business school with decent networking, but I’m not too excited about Miami culture (heavy Greek life, huge lack of diversity, in the middle of nowhere – farmland Ohio). I’m hoping that the financial aid pans out well for Tulane because I also don’t know if it is worth going there with little to no aid.

Is there a reason that you didn’t apply to Ohio State?

@Eeyore123 I did apply to OSU, but they put me in a regional campus and are forcing me to spend a year there before transferring to Columbus; I don’t like the school enough to pick that option over my other ones, which are far better.
