NYU vs. UCSD for Mass Media & Communication.

NYU cost: $48,000
UCSD cost: $40,000 (out of state)

*NYU Pros: *
- Great internship opportunities for a communication major (CNN, MTV, etc)
- Great business school (I plan to take some basic courses in Stern)
- Very urbanized and culturally diverse
- Strong connections with oversea schools to study abroad
- Decent social life in the city
- Only 6 hours driving distance from home
- More nationally recognized overall than UCSD?

Cons:
- East Coast weather
- High level of stress of living in NY
- A bit more expensive

UCSD Pros:
- I'm in love with the so cal atmosphere!
- Fantastic weather
- Nicer/more relaxed people
- There's an actual campus
- Close enough to LA/Mexico to have fun

UCSD Cons:
- Not strong of a communication school as NYU?
- Not as academically prestigious of a school as NYU?
- Not known for business
- Socially dead?
- Not many opportunities for internships

Please give me suggestions and feel free to disagree with me! :)
If you are familiar with UCSD, please do tell me more about the school.
Financial differences is not too big of an issue.. by all means, I'm willing to pay for a better school if it will truly benefit my future and provide me with more opportunities to succeed.

Please help!!

Thank you!

anyone?

bump

i go to ucsd!

i dont know much about NYU. a friend here at ucsd almost went there but decided against it. the only thing i really know about nyu is that i hate the campus. and i feel like there isnt really a campus.

um. thats about it. im sowwy

ucsd!

hey, i saw that if you go to nyu you will be closer to home.

well. im a family person. and that is important to me. think of it this way... a year later, will you regret going to one school and not the other?

i would say NYU. I live in San Diego County and I can truly say I'm bored of it. Lots of my friends go to or are going to go to UCSD and there are no parties......they all go to SDSU's parties, and when UCSD actually has a party, there are a bajillion people there b/c it's practically the only party available......Yeah, UCSD is in La Jolla, which is right by the beach, but for me, there's only so much you can do with salty water and sand, you know? And most of all, it seems that NYU would provide more opportunities for you, since UCSD is really only known for its bio/pre-med program

I always had the impression that NYU is more mainstream and respected in communications and business than UCSD.. is that true?

My daughter is deciding between the two schools as well. We've visited both. I believe that NYU's Stern School of Business is one of the top B-schools in the U.S. I don't believe UCSD has a B-school.

As for communications, I believe NYU's Com-school is a bit more well known than UCSD's. And, NYC probably offers more internship/job opportunities than UCSD.

Good luck.
